Leaking oil filter housing
 

Well just completed pi swap on my 98 gt. Couple days after it was done, i noticed a puddle of coolant on the floor. After some investigating, and removing the oil filter, i see that coolant is seeping out the end of the housing near where the filter goes. It is coming out around the edges. I am assuming there are seals inside to keep coolant and oil separated. Has anyone had this problem, and is it an easy job to fix......thanks for your help

There is a gasket between the housing and block. Should be easy to change out.

Go down to Ford and buy a new gasket. Drain the coolant and oil. Remove the 4 boths that hold the housing to the block. Replace gasket.

yes I will do that, but are there seals inside of the housing that may fail also. The area that it is coming out is on the very end of the housing inside the ID of the housing where the oil filter seats. If I was to remove the threaded oil filter shaft, would there be o-rings or seals behind there?

I don't think there are any seals inside the housing. It almost sounds like the housing might have a crack in it. Sorry I can't be much more help.

I have replaced both the gasket and the housing on my car. Sounds like the gasket failed. It is one piece with two holes in it. It will cost you about $10 for the gasket, then all your coolant and oil, and the 3 hours of work to get it all done.

ok thanks alot for all your help, i am gonna go pick up a gasket today and replace and hopefully that will fix it.

yeah, these are really common to leak, they have used these since the beggining of time on the 4.6 v8, they are very common to leak, but usually it is oil that leaks. the adapter housing could crack but in the 10 of these i have done it is always just the gasket. time to do it is about one hour with good tools, all you need to do is take off the filter, no need to darin the oil. and drail about 2 gallons of coolant, and when you take the hose off the adapter put the hose facing upward to limit the amount you lose. there are 4 bolts with 13mm heads.. i think.. they might be 12. but anyways pull them out take the adapter off and scrape the old gasket material off and reverse the procedure to reinstall. you should need 1 gal of antifreeze 1 gal of water and about 1/2 quart of engine oil. gasket is about 7-10 dollars
