Another gears ?, sorry
 

Hey everyone...after much debate I decided on the 4.10's over the 3.90's...I figure 200 RPM's more isn't much and everyone who got less than 4.10's say they wish they had went with them first, Now I have a new dilema...Motive or Ford, From what I've heard it's a coin flip and the motive are 50 bucks less.
Any feedback would be great...thanks

Also, this may be a stupid question but do you have to drive easy for a while after installing the gears, or is it okay to get on it?

well since there is no special coating or anything, and no air flows through them...i'm guessing, you can probably romp on them right after installation, but im not sure

That's what I thought but I'll definetly ask the installer first...It's gonna suck if he says to take it easy :laughing7

If you have a good installer, you should be able to just jump on it. I think the point to going easy is to listen to any unusual noise or vibration. Better to catch a problem before it becomes a big problem. But, just follow whatever instructions they give you.

I always heard after brand new gears go drive it around a little, let the car cool down, and go drive around again. Do this a few times and you will be fine.

I'm sure theres lots of different opinions though.

You should get FRPP, comes with all the shims and what not you need for your install. While the motive you just get pinion and gear and you have to buy the install kit.

I got FFRP 4.10's and the Master Bearing kit...cheap insurance for later down the road

Which ever is cheaper to your door including the installation kit, get those ones.
Gears are gears are gears between these two.

I changed my mind again...I'm gonna go with the 3.90's because of how much driving I do on the HWY

I just got FRPP 4:10's in mine, and I do alot of hwy drivin it's not bad esp with our cars, I'm only at 2500 @ 75. The only reason I got the ford is because that's what they used at the shop I go to, like he said gears are gears.

Dammit, I wish someone would just buy me some so I don't have to decide :icon_thum

Get the 4.10's! I do a 50+ mile commute 5 days a week at 80 mph

ford gears, and drive a couple of miles cool down for 20 minutes and your good to go. let the metal expand and contract. ive seen people install gears and rip down the street with no problems also.

Your speedo is wrong. when at 70 MPH the rpms should be at 2600 Rpms..

I also am getting 4.10's...75 at 2500Rpms aint bad at all...I never really go faster than 80 anyways on the highways...

BTW.......how did the 4.10's feel compared to the stocky 3.27's??? Big accaration huh?

your sopposed to drive for 20mins and then let the rear cool down for a few hours not mins, then your sopposed to take it easy not gong over 60mph i think it was on the first few trips with the new gears. thats how i was told at every gear place i have ever been to. hell at 4wheelparts they wouldnt let me take my truck unless i take a paper that said this and signed it saying i would fallow the directiosn on it or they wouldnt warrenty there work on my f150's gear install.

I have never heard of breaking in gears! When I got mines installed, I gave my car a beating!

OH YEAH! out of all the mods I've done, the gears, by far, have been the best.

Ive had gears swapped out 3 different times and every installer has told me to break em in for at least 150 or more miles! also there is a difference between brands? I prefer the FRPP they are like running the stock gears very quiet :icon_thum some people have question there realiabilty when it comes to launching hard but i never had any problems with them. Ive herd Motives are good but no experience with them! Richmond gears suppose to be very strong but they whine :icon_sile

when your gears get installed they will get broken in by the installer. when they test drive your car for to test for gear whine. since i went with motive, the guy couldnt get rid of the whine he changed shims 3 different times to get the whine down the measurements that were on the gears were bad. its annoying but whatever. it whines between 40 and 50 when im getting up to speed and 50 45 when im slowing down. it sounds like a jet engine coming online, if you work with jet engines then you know what i mean

Don't know much about this subject but my friend has a 2004 MACH I and has many mods including drag radials but when he put Ford Racing gears in it he broke it third run on the track. Perhaps he hooked up too well or something but I cant beleive he broke it first time out. Makes me wonder about ford Racing products.

I had Ford Racing gears 3:73s for 4 years they worked awesome in fact I like them better then the Richmond 4:10s I have now! just cause they are very quite no whining :icon_pale btw I raced with the 3:73s almost every Friday nite during the summer :evil6:
