04 alum block moutaineer motor in 1998 must
 

i bought a 1998 must with blown motor. I would like to put a explorer or moutaineer alum block motor in it. has anybody tried this combo, will it work with this automatic car? yes i am talking about a 4.6 thanx roy

yes. bolts right up. Transfer your mustang intake, oil pan/pickup and exhaust. You'll be losing 80lbs off the nose of your mustang and you should also see improved braking from the reduced nose weight.

I have swapped to an Explorer engine. Like R3d said you will need to transfer your mustang intake, oil pan/pickup and exhaust. For the Explorer engine you will need to get a timing from a 94 or 95 t-bird. It is a really easy swap.

probably you'll need either a mustang front cover or a t-bird front cover/timing cover.

You can use the mustang cover but 1 hole does not line up. I've heard of people just putting a bunch of RTV to cover the hole. The tbird cover lines up perfectly and will allow you to mount the power steering reservoir in the correct location. Either way the explorer will not work.

So whats the benefit of swapping in an Explorer or Mountaneer 4.6L motor into a Mustang? are they lighter, stronger? what are they rated @ HP wise?

They are rated at 253 HP stock. The intake exhaust and computer make up the horsepower differance.

I have a 2002 Mountineer 4.6 in my 99 GT. Even though I added a blower and Bullitt intake I can still notice the benefits of the light weight aluminum block. The car handles and brakes much better and weighs in at 3190 without driver.

aluminum block drops 80lbs off the most overweight part of the car. It improves balance and overall weight. Everything is better when weight is balanced and there's as little of it as possible.

what have you done as far as lightening (including suspension and seats and such)? That's nicely light.

Wow thats nice, iam considering a swap since the engine is hurt on one of my Stangs? i thought about the Cobra block since i found one that i can afford it also is an older style teksid type block, but this Explorer block sounds good too! especially since i have a small budget right now! mine will also be getting a blower from my old setup.

I paid $1000 for a 25K mile 2002 4.6. If you have your old engine still, its an easy swap as you have everything you need.

Yeah i have everything from my old setup, thats awesome right there within the budget.
