Default Running rich?

I have a mac o/f h-pipe that I have had on my Gt for close to a year now. Right off the bat it had a heavy exhaust smell but I never found a exhaust leak. I later put a sniper special forces tune on it and the smell of exhaust (gas) has declined but is still apparent. Right now I dont have a wide band or a/f gauge but does the heavy exhaust smell mean that i am running rich? I dont plan on dyno tunning until I get a couple of other bolt on's. But I want to lean it out with the sniper tunner in the mean time if it is running rich? Or is running no cats causing the heavy exhaust smell and I have nothing to worry about. I have a couple of buddies with o/f mid pipes but they dont seem to put out a heavy smell? I did cut my tail pipes and put turn downs out the mufflers but it had the exhaust smell before that. Any advice would be great.

get thee to a wideband o2 sensor. Dumps increase the amount you'll notice. You still need to get it checked out though.

I have this too with my car. I'm running LT's with and o/r h-pipe and the exhaust smell is bad. From what I hear this is because there is no cats so i doubt there is anything wrong with your car.

if you dont have cats then its going to smell no matter what the tune is like. Thats the point of cats, help lower emissions, without them you have more "exhaust smell" coming out. get high flow cats and it will help out.

Thanks for the input. I just wanted to make sure that it wasnt running too rich. I will eventually get a dyno tune along with a/f gauge or wideband to make sure things are always right.

you can always check your plugs to see if you are running rich or lean.
