Default Unsure what I have

Okay, I just purchased a 2002 GT convertible 4.6l V8 FI SOHC 16v. My question is, do I have a 2v or 4v? I think it's 2v but I'm not sure. I've been searching, and can't tell. Note, I'm waiting on the arrival of my car, so I can't look on the engine right now. I have pics of engine though.
Also, what size throttle body do I have? 65mm ot 70mm?
Also, I'm new to the forums, and don't know much about engines, in case you are wondering about stupid questions. Thanks.

it is a 2v.

16Valves / 8 cylinders = 2valves.

the cobras and mach1's have 32valve v8's, which are the 4 valves.

and i think it is a 60mm

I thought the Mach 1's have a three valve like the new GT's. I don't know? So what mods are you planning first Wolfey?

Mach1's are 4v. The 05+'s are the only ones with 3v.

The mach1's pretty much have a Cobra engine minus the blower. there are some differences, but it is closer to a cobra engine than a 2v or 3v 4.6l

nope. 96-04 Cobra's and Mach 1's have the 32 valves divide that by 8 cylinders = 4 valve's per cylinder.

96-04 GT, and Bullitt had the 16 Valve divide that by 8 cylinders = 2 valves per cylinder.

Wow, that was fast. thanks guys.
To answer your question about mods, I'm starting with the engine. The interior is pretty much how I want it, so, now I'm working on the engine. I don't know what to buy first though. Any suggestions?

first mods usally suggested are gears(3.73 or 4.10), diablo or sct computer tuner, underdrive pullies, and 70mm or 75mm TB and upper intake plenum. unless u have some money saved up then supercharger all the way.

What would you suggest if later down the road I was considering a sc?

Heres what a 4v looks like. Like a new house on a zero lot. I would get gears first.

Factory stock Throttle body is a 65mm. You can pick up a truck 70mm TB and swop the linkages for around $20-$70. This is a cheap FRPP throttle body.
As for the S/C I would shoot for a roots style. Kenne Bell, Whipple, Ford Racing, Eaton, and keep your stock gears up to a 3.73.
I have 4.10's in my Vic and going places long distance drives me nuts with those gears.

Just a technicality but the last two are not roots superchargers and the second doesnt exist.

Roots superchargers f'n suck, they dont make JACK for power especially for the cost. I can elaborate as to why if you are curious, most people here also know why.

Also Whipple doesnt make a 2v Mustang kit that I know of.

Stay away from the ford racing, saleen, and roush superchargers - they are all eatons and eatons suck. Get this in your head now, eatons suck, thats why the 03/04 cobra guys get rid of them for bigger and better things.

Kenne Bell is good, vortech is good, procharger is good but they leak, turbos are good.

4.10 gears are to steep for a boosted car I agree.

I would do 3.73 or better yet 3.90. I had the Motive 3.90s in my car and 85MPH was 2600 RPM (i think, id have to find the pic).

75MM throttle body is a good cheap first mod, add a JLT CAI with it (not RAI) (www.jlttruecoldair.com)

Don't waste the $400 on a predator or xcal until you are supercharged or get gears, you wont gain any power from it.

Thanks 281, very informative. You have given me some good ideas even though I will stick with the 4.6 as far as I can see for now. I just learned that I may have some long term access to a garage in the near future so I've got the gears turning.
