HEADERS!!!!!
WHAT SHOULD I DO???? I have welded on flows on my stock cat back.. looking for a better sound.. I was looking into headers but wanted to know if they would bolt on to my stock cat-back?

HEADERS WONT CHANGE THE SOUND HARDLY! you want to get a different mid pipe like an H or X pipe. IF you get an offroad one meaning no cats on it she will be alot louder. Even high flow catted mid pipes will make it louder. But off road pipes make the most noise.
And headers would bolt up to the mid pipe, then catback. Also if your wondering and H-pipe will make more torque then an X pipe but X will make more top end power(little power difference between both). THe H pipe will have a deeper old school muscle car sound while an x-pipe will have a more high pitched "Raspy" as alot of people say sound so its up to you. GO to youtube and search mustangs with H or X pipe and pick the one you like by the way it sounds. |
slap some Hooker Aerochambers on there and enjoy the sweet muscular rumble.

if your getting new headers get longtubes. Get a bump in performance.

how do you know what headers will give you the best sound?

Midpipe (X or H, with or without Cats) and Mufflers are what will change your sound. Stock H pipe with Welded flows will sound only slightly louder than stock. Hi-flow catted H or X mid-pipe with flows will sound louder but not real loud Off road H or X with Flows will be loud and drone (some people like drone) Headers will do nothing for sound |
The sound of my car changed SIGNIFICANTLY going from stock manifolds, prochamber, and magnapacks to Mac LT's, o/r H, and magnapacks. I highly doubt it was all because of the midpipe.
Either way, headers have nothing to do with a catback. |
Headers will give you a bit louder and more of a growl at WOT. I had headers on before my midpipe went on and it changed the exhaust a bit. I have a clip in my sig with LT Headers, exhaust and x-pipe.

going from a stock type header to a long tube will get a slightly different sound (bit it is difficult to compare b/c if you go long tube, you need a new mid-pipe, thus making it an apples to oranges compare). However, going from a stock shorty to an aftermarket shorty will sound no different. All your major sound change will come from changing mid pipes and catback, headers will have a minimal effect on the sound of your car

how much hp would you say that you lose if you go with a catted h pipe over a offroad h pipe?
|
not enough to justify not having cats.
