Short throw shifter!

I just got a steed tri-ax short throw shifter in my car and when i have the radio off and the windows up i can hear the wineing of the transmission, it did not do this with the stock shifter. anyone else's short throw do this?

Yeah, you will here some extra noise with an after market shifter. I had the Tri-Ax on my 03 GT and Mach and both times there was some increased noise. The aftermarket shifters don't have the boot around the shifter to filter out some of the tranny noise.

I've found that almost every mod has some sort of trade off....most of the time the good out weighs the bad. But then again, after looking at your exhaust set up I'm not sure how you hear anything! ha ha

hmmm...my MGW makes no extra noise. but the Hurst I had in my old truck sure made noise.

it's normal depending on tri-ax's. Mine's done it since I got it.

Mine was just as quiet when I had the stock one, but I used the 3650 gaskets on mine.

UPR = Barf. but if you like it then more power to ya. my opinion is that if you are going to put a part on your car that you use EVERY time you operate said car, you should use no less than the best. and IMO, MGW makes the best shifter for our cars.

Out of curosity are yo one of the many who bash UPR stuff but have never used it, or have you actually used it? The few things from them that i bought are top notch. The shifter isn't the shortest, but it's build like the proverbrial brick shitter, and i've only missed a gear once at WOT and thats becasue my hand slipped off the handle.

I never have owned a UPR part, however I have heard way too many bad things and horror stories from ppl I know and trust about UPR products and the company.

I believe them...I haven't bought anything from UPR because of that.

Well i also noticed it a little harder to into the grears. That normal too for an aftermart shifter? I can only hear the noise when im in a RPM, other than that i cant hear to much from the exhaust! (Loud Exhaust = Happyness):D

After I switched to my B&M I got a set of Cobra Bob's shifter gaskets. Several people I know were tellin me to go with a set and after I installed them it made a big difference. And since you have a two piece shifter it gives you gaskets for the handle too. Go to www.stangshiftergaskets.com they were like $6 and very easy to install and are reusable.

I have the tri-ax and it did the same thing, I made a gasket for the shifter body to tranny (I have a roll of gasket material that I use frequently) and used 2 hard rubber washers from the handle to the shifter base. Eliminated most of the noise.

What's a matter with you guys? Can't take the noise of helical cut gears? I wonder what you guys would say if our cars came w/ a M22 Muncie. Gear wine is normal, as is the slightly increased effort needed to shift. As for me, I'll use any shifter, as long as I see it's got a chrome stick and white ball(aka, made by Hurst).

My Tri-ax whines and shakes and vibrates....chicks dig it.

For a week or so the shifter will feel notchy and weird then it smooths out. its the nature of the beast, my shifter also is louder then stock because like all aftermarket shifters it doesn't have shit tons of boots, sound deadening material. I could care less because my car is loud anyhow.

I'm with you on that one, my car is loud too, i just wanted to make sure that i was not going to mess anything up in the tranny. Thanks for the help and advice everyone.
