Quiet Catback?

Ok so here's the deal i have an offroad hpipe which i love and refuse to remove from my bullitt i used to have a magnaflow catback system, but after some bs from local small town police i was forced to remove the catbck and go back to stock mufflers....my question is i want an aftermarket catback for the performance gains, but it cannot be too loud at all so no SLP or shit like that.....i was wondering if anyone knew of a quality kit that will give me performance gains with a quiet close to stock sound. I heard flowmasters have some fairly conservative systems.

magnaflows are pretty quiet... at idle.

your gonna have to put some cats on to keep the exhaust note down.

Exactly.No cat's=Loud

shift at 2,000RPMS from 1st-4th and magnaflow sounds stock. 5th gear cruising, sounds stock

spike_africa 07-06-2007 06:10 AM

something like dynomax turbo mufflers are not loud at all and flow really well.

Youll need to stay away from anything with a straight-through design. Go with something chambered.

I heard mac flopaths are pretty quiet too...

Did you have the magnaflow magnapack system or just the regular system? Before I got longtubes I ran an o/r x pipe and the regular magnaflows and that was pretty darn quiet. It sounded stock at idle and cruising speeds as well as under normal acceleration. I think it's going to be real tough trying to find exhaust that is less quiet than the regular magnaflows with a o/r x or h pipe.

Good luck.

I have a hard time believing that. I had a friend with flowmasters and o/r x pipe and it was loud as hell. Way louder than my o/r x pipe and regular magnaflows which are straight through design.

Deffinetly get something with a packing like magnaflow, dynomax turbo or thrush etc...

Steeda97 07-08-2007 09:01 AM

Anything chambered is more quiet. i'd go with some type of flowmasters, throw on some cats and you'll be set. You'll probably notice a significant torque gain in the process.

As for me, my exhaust system is as free flowing as my local laws allow. My neighbors definitely hear me coming up the street. :-P

redfire04 07-08-2007 09:20 AM

I'm not trying to be an ass but once again I'm not sure how a chambered design is more quiet?! Is there proof somewhere about this? It just doesn't make sense to me.

You know when you're driving with the windows down and you stick your arm/hand out the window it makes it much louder because the air cannot flow as your causing disruption in the flow...thats what I think of when you're talking about a chambered design. My magnaflows with o/r x were awfully quiet compared to 2 of my friends with flowmasters and o/r x or h pipes.

SLP power-flo w/cats is not as loud as you think

Its all about preference, I always thought that Bassani was straight through, but now i keep hearing that its both? (hybrid). My exhaust is pretty f'n loud, much louder than my friends flowmasters. Honestly, if you want to tone it down that bad, throw on the stock H pipe. :-P

If you don't mind some rice get some exhaust like eclipses put on their cars with the silencer you can attach to the tip which will make it quiet and if you want it loud just take it out! It may look like coffee can but at least it would be quiet! :kekekegay:

spike_africa 07-08-2007 05:56 PM

look into the dynomax turbo its not that loud and still flows good.

Blue Thunder 07-08-2007 11:36 PM

I'm sorry to tell you but i had the regula magnaflows and the mac prochamber and my car was loud as ****! My parents could literally hear me up to four miles away with that setup so anyone who thinks that quiet must seriously be....:poke: ! So anyhoo i dunno abotu atraight through or chambered or anything...but one thing i do know is that i have no intention of removing my prochamber( I love that thing!) I will be adding longutbes in a while so maybe that will help the sound got a lil louder.

redfire04 07-09-2007 07:45 PM

Sounds to me like the prochamber is the difference.

You'll love the headers! Get them asap!

Well with any off-road setup, its going to be loud, regardless of what muffler setup you have. He probably had the 2 chamber design which isnt much quieter than a straight through design. Flows are loud in general anyways...

Must have been the Prochamber because I have the regular Magnaflows on my 03 vert and for general cruising they are about +1 over stock. They get loud if you lean on them, but not normal driving or idle.
I am using the stock H pipe.

and how about IMCO performance muffler :P
