3.73 or 4.10
Which gears should I go with 4.10's or 3.73's??? I do about even on city and highway driving.

Well I went with 4.10's. Well they aren't installed yet but they are sitting in my room next to my Black Bullits that are not installed ( I will have a collection soon haha ) I say go with 4.10's, unless you plan to get a supercharger soon go with 3.73's. I have not heard of any complaints about going with 4.10's even with a lot of highway driving.

What I have seen if you have a 4 valve 4.10s but if its 2 valve 3.73s.

I went with the 3.73s because for one, I am going to be doing a lot of highway driving next year, and two, I want to be ready if I ever want to put a supercharger on it. I dont want to have to do it more than once, but I guess if I hate it enough, ill just wait until I decide to build the rear end and throw some 4.10's in there. My dad was much more friendly with the idea of the 3.73's as well.

anyhow if your gonna do a power adder like nitrous i dont think i would even do gears. i have a hard time at the strip as it is with a mild 4.6 if its gonna be n/a go with 4.10's or 4.30's if its gonna have a power adder and you really want gears go with 3.73's |
This si a good rule of thumb to follow:
n/a 5 speed - 4.10's n/a auto - 4.30's Power Adder - 3.73's However, I have a 5 speed and Nitrous and I have 4.10's. They are perfect for the car. No problems at all. Keep in mind too that when you have nitrous, most of the time you are driving n/a. My car is insane in second gear while spraying. First gear goes by soo quickly when spraying, no sooner does the solenoid open and I am shifting into second. I am going to get my G-Tech hooked back up and post the results. I can compare g forces in each gear from when I went from 3.27's to 4.10's and then now with a 100 shot. The data is quite interesting as I already have all the info on the gear change. This is listed below: 3.27/4.10 1 st - 0.52/0.63 2 nd -0.36 /0.47 3 rd - 0.24/0.36 4 th - 0.15/24 g's 5 th - ?/0.15 g's I will repeat the experiement with the 4.10's n/a and then do it with the 100 shot and then post the results. |
I went with 3:73's because I just wanted a little quicker pick up and I don not plan on racing plus I drive on the highway. The gears feel good but now I wonder how things would have been with 4:10's

I put 3.73's on my car one month after getting it, they made a nice difference on the street. I now run 4.30's and they made a nice difference at the strip.
I recently made a 500 mile round trip from St. Louis to Bowling Green to race in the NMRA event being held there. I had 2 - 275/15/50 Nitto's in the back seat, a set of jack stands, a floor lift, various tools, big cooler complete with ice and beer (some food also) a duffle bag of clothes. I set my cruise control at 71 mph for the entire trip and got 23 mpg. If you are wanting to run alot at the track and stay n/a go with 4.30's, if you think you might want to hit it with a little nitrous don't exceed 4.10's. If you have no plans to race 3.73's leave you plenty of top end. |

Depends what you want to do but most owners dont race, they just want better pickup on the highway for passing thats why 3.73 are popular for 2 valve motor. In my case I would go for 4.10 since the cobra motor revs higher. If all you care about is how fast you can go on 1/4mile than that opens a whole different can of worms.
