Can I run Comp 278's on my stock block safely? I've always thought the answer was no but now I'm looking on Corral.net and there's tons of guys selling them and saying they'll work fine on stock motors as long as they're PI (99+). What do you guys thinK?

Yes you can run them, but you run a high risk of Piston to Valve contact (PTV)

I wouldnt run 278s without the heads to back it up. You would need to flycut your pistons so your car isnt singing the piston to valve song. Seeing how they are a more aggressive cam, youd lose power down low and make for it up top past 6100 where you shouldnt be anyways. I dont know what your intentions are with your car but id step down to 270s or some VT stage IIs unless you have a built engine in your future.

Just what Matt said, the 278's are too aggressive for you and youll need fly cut pistons. Bigger doesnt always mean better.
A very knowledgeable guy always recommends 262ah, Crower 62801-2, or Hitech 2060. If you have stock heads, intake Id pick one of those three. If youve got ported heads, then Id go with 270's or VT stage 2's. As you probably know youll have to upgrade valve springs with the 270's and VT's, go with Crower or Manley Nextek (sp) springs. |

the comp 270's are pushing it with a stock short block (piston to valve wise). 278's cant be used with a stock shortblock.
