Default aode problems

i have a 2001 gt, when i bought it, it had alot done already. the problem is the trans. it has a shift kit, torque converter and tranny cooler. it shifts good at WOT, but around town, i am in overdrive by the time i am at 25mph. needless to say that it drives like a dog at that point and shifts so hard it actually broke the starter bolts.
my question is, is there any way for me to know what kind of shift kit is in there, can i remove the shift kit and if so is it difficult, can i just take this one out and switch to another one. or will i have to replace the VB. i would like to get it back to shifting the way it did stock if possible. please help before i get whiplash or my tranny takes a shit

i dont think there is any way of telling what kit is in there, its not too hard to change it out, but part of your problem could be the torque converter do you know what stall it is??

BTW if things dont work out your trans I have a stock 4r70w (aode) sitting asround with 61k miles

there's bound to be some tuning to the ECU to allow for the increased line pressure/firmer shifts. Do you know if it's been tuned and if so with what software/hardware (handheld/chip/ecu flash && Diablo/Hypertec/SCT/Superchips).

First stop for me would be AAmco for a quick check.

I would sell everytrhing for 250, stock torque for 50. Where are you located?

Youve got a couple choices here. Some shift kits (trans go) are known to ruin trannys. Others, such as the J Mod, are actually good for the tranny. You could buy a stock one, buy a new built one with converter, then sell what youve got now, or just replace it with stock parts.

Tell me what your goal is for the car and Ill help you make the right decision. Dont go buying parts yet.

my goal is to get the tranny to shift without feeling like the tranny is gonna fall out the car. so i guess i want it smoother, more undercontrol. right now the tranny has a mind of its own, it shifts anywhere from 1200 to 6k rpms. and its new thing, if i am in od, and i let go of the gas, it down shifts, viciously. so basicaly, i want a cheap fix for now. hopefully in about 6 months, it will have a tko but it has to make it till then and i am possitive that the way it is now it wont. help

I recommend buying a new VB and getting rid of the shift kit. Contact Darrin @ www.bc-automotive.com I bet he has some stock ones laying around. Also, if there is a tune on the car right now then remove it. Follow some of the steps in my write up for swapping out the VB, http://www.dndgarage.net/jmod.htm
