2V to 4V Conversion?

Well I am planning on doing the intercooler this next week and some other mods, but I came across some parts for sale pretty cheap. This guy has 4 valve heads, cams, mach1 intake, valve covers, timing cover, and fuel rails. Everything for $700. I was just wondering what all it would take to convert mine to 4valve. Would I need a new wiring harness? New timing chains? How much in additional parts would I need? Would it be worth it in power gain?

3v>4v or 3v<4v

im thinking somewere along the lines of a new shortblock ;)

you'll need new chains, guides, tensioners, arms, front cover gasket, balancer bolt (get an ARP one and you won't have to replace it again), head gaskets, head bolts or ARP studs (230 bucks but worth it). Your compression will drop to about 8.8:1 - 9:1 so you can up the boost. Power gain will be ludicrous if you do a good job and get a re-tune. You'll need a tune or a ECU swap too.

From what I recall you don't NEED a new harness but there is some wiring work to do if you don't swap that out. Should only need the underhood harness if you dont' want to deal wtih cutting and splicing but again... not 100% sure.

uhh i could be totally off, but i was under the assumption that 4v heads would in no way fit on a 2v shorblock . . . .

you are 100% completely off. They're the same block.

You wouldn't want to put 2V heads on a block that was from a 4V car because your compression would be nearly 13:1 and PTV would be a serious concern but they do in fact bolt right up. Putting 4v heads on a 2v block results in around .5-.8 point reduction in compression but that's about it.

r3dn3ck what would we do with out you and all your brains. lol!

well i'll be damned, so the 4.6 DOHC and the 4.6 SOHC are the same block, and the 2v 3v and 4v heads are interchangeable (if you do the right work)

Probably just sit down and cry/panic... just a guess.

Yeah, that's why they call it a modular V8.

looks like too much work to get it all done. I think ill stick with the 2V. I know theylle flow enough for 650whp. Thats my goal.
