built 5.4 with cams and nitrous
 

After winter I plan on buying a 99+ mustang gt and doing the 5.4l2v swap along with some type of cams. My first plans were for forced induction but now I plan on spraying at least a 150shot 200 if possible.

I'm woundering what would be the max hp the 5.4l with the steel crank would hold along with forged pistons and rods.

Also is there anyway to build up the stock trans to handle that power or would a t56 be needed also rear end hp limit. Pretty much what all would i need to support a 450-500whp setup I only plan on spraying at the track. I also want to keep this car as reliabile as possible

the stock crank and block will hold pretty much anything you can get through the intake. 200hp is a BIG shot and you'll definitely want to set that up in stages or you'll blow the tires off and that's bad.

The t45 will hold up to a certain amount of abuse but if you're going to drag race it with huge nitrous blasts then I'd go with a TKO500 or TKO600, maybe even a built auto like a race prepped c4. The t56 is best left to road course cars. The rear end will give up after a while (or right away if you're mean to it) so you'll want an aftermarket diff and axles, a diff girdle and probably axle tube welding and a snout to axle tube brace.

Don't forget about subframe connectors, torque box welding, a big fuel system and a set of baby wipes to clean up your seats after your first pass down the strip.
