I was wondering if i could put a 2.2L on my stock Mustang GT and run 8lbs. of boost until i get the internals? Or should i just go with a cam, heads and other goodies?

Yes, you can do that. Just make sure you get it dyno tuned by a good shop. But 8lbs is fine on stock internals.
Im moving this to our Power Adder section. |

Its not the boost its the hp you make the stock short block is only safe for around 400-450rwhp thats it. And with a 2.2L and some exhaust work its gonna make alot of power even at 8psi.

Well, i have an x-pipe and a cat back and a JLT CAI, with the 8 lbs. of boost, what should i be looking at as for rwhp?

You can detune the car to keep it under 400rwhp. A good shop wont push the limits.

So would you spend the money on the KB or would you rather gets cams and internals and other shit and save the KB for next winter?

kb now so if you blow the engine you have a reason to do the internals..lol im just messing. better bang for the buck is the KB. replacing the internals and cams/heads would net you about a 50hp gain (depending on how agressive you get).
once you get the KB, start saving for internals, then once the internals are installed the sky is the limit for the engine. dont forget about the rear and tranny

Yeah, at 8 lbs., i should be around 380 at the wheels, right? Or is that way too high?

Who cares about bang for the buck when it comes to internals or a power adder first. I say always go with a power adder first. Get the car tuned once, itll be easier to remove the engine before the blower is on there. Plus, you dont have to wait to up the power. As long as you have a good fuel system, then you're good to go.
I say do cams, heads, short block, and fuel system first. Then slap the KB on there and push 500- 600rwhp. |

First, PureStang, i like the signature you have there. Very Nice. Second, If i buy the KB and then the engine blows, can't i just do all the internals and stuff then and it would be easier, right?

Is there any paticular reason your going with a KB? Is it just the name you like? (KB being popular etc) or do you just like Positive displacement Blowers?
btw i only see a 2.1l kit for the 99-04 2v on the KB website. and its ~$5,000!!!!(for the Intercooled kit) before shipping thats a LOT of money for boost . .

Keep in mind the shop you buy it from must install it.
Why would it be easier to install the KB, then potentially blow the engine, then get it built? It would be easier to get everything set up correctly BEFORE the blower IMO. |

Whats that Whining Noise?

The 2.2L kit for the Gt has been upgraded to the new Big Bore 2.6L. Plus if I'm not mistaking, you will need a different hood to clear the blower. Like a cowl hood or a Cobra R one.

Right, i saw that too. I would get a new hood. Most likely the COBRA R. I like the KB's. It would be that or a Whipple. I would do the lower Liter KB but i want to go with a higher boost later on and i don't want to get the lower and then buy the Big Bore one later down the line. 03Mustang GT, i know what you are thinking and that's what i was thinking myself. You just can't go woring with a Whine like a SC coming at you.

the dudes that get superchargers because they think turbos are for imports or that for some reason a supercharger is more manly or more Muscly Car-like then Turbochargers. I assume as much because you /drool over the sound of a Blower whine but bawk at the thought of a Turbo spool being anything more then ricey sounding EDIT: But its besides the point i dont want to hijack your thread. To try to get back on topic Ill just say this. I vote for getting the blower before the built engine. It sucks when you have big dreams of big horsepower but it takes forever (what sometimes happends when you want to do everything at once)

No, i just forgot about the Turbos. I know the turbos are freaking badass but i've just always wanted a blower. That's all. I used to think Turbos were for Ricers but that was a long time ago. Trust me, i'm not one of " those guys ".

I personally don't think I'd ever want a Turbo or TT setup. I just really have never like the sound.. It's kind of annoying, but Im sure the same thing can be said for a Blower.. Yeah, I know what you're going to say T_B 'it's not about the sound, it's about the gains' but to me gains mean squat if your car annoys the shit out of you, lol! |
