I am new to this forum...hello btw!....i just put single flows on my car, i still have the stock midpipe and the cats and all that.....i love the sound but its not nearly loud enough, and i came from a 97 z28 with 3.23's (as opposed to 2.73s on most) and the acceleration is no where near what that car's was. I have a few hundred to spend, and i dropped the idea of getting a CAI because of minimal gains....im lookin at gears, which is the best brand? there are 3.73s for 129 dollars on the mustangtuning.com site(motive is the brand), they would be the cheapest. Also, should i get 3.73, 3.90's or 4.10s?
My gt is an auto, so i dont want the rpms to be too high on the highway, its still a daily driver, but i want a much beter launch and acceleration, i could careless about top speed. back to the exhaust....my mom had a 2003 mustang and she had long tube headman headers. For whatever reason she ended up taking them off and getting rid of her stang, and now they sit. SHe says shell give them to me, im wondering if there are any changes between 2003-2004 in the header//exhaust routing area. With the long tubes, does it matter what mid pipe i get? whats the difference between x and H? Lots of questions but i am completely new to the mustang world...thanks yall |

MOst people will say get the 4:10's but I love my 3:73, they have a good launch, and the RPM's aren't too bad on the highway. Mine is a DD and I do a lot of highway driving.
As far as the midpipe with the LT's you will need to get a shorty mid pipe for them to work. There is no difference in the routing of the pipes between your years. IF you want your exhaust to be a lot louder get an off road midpipe (no cats), but that all depends on if you have emissions or not.

H pipes will have more rumble, x's will have more rasp. Both are good. X's have been known to make slightly more power but not enough to say grace over.
I'd get 4.10's with an auto normally but since you mention liking lower RPMs while cruising, 3.73's will really wake it up too and keep the street manners. Long tubes will net you very nice gains of 10-15hp and similar tq. They usually require you to watch how far you lower it though or you can get some gnarly scraping action on driveways and speed bumps. Enjoy. |

Here is a gear/rpm table... http://www.bullittarchive.com/WebHel...ittArchive.htm when you get to the site do a search for Gear Tables and you'll get a good idea of what your rpms will be will different gears

Yay....it turns out the local modular powerhouse charges 350 to do a gear install, plus computer calibration...i wont be going that route. I am however going with an x pipe and no cats....it will be installed next saturday, i dont need emissions for this year....what exactly qualifies a person to not have to worry about emissions?

get the cats man. In most states going catless is a $300-$1000+ fine and it's only going to cause CEL's to light up and do more damage to the air. High flow Cats don't rob hardly any power, sound better IMO, and help keep the air clean, plus, no giant emissions ticket.
I got stopped here in california on Monday, FIRST thing the CHP did after getting my L/R/I was to kneel down and check my mid-pipe for cats...even tapped on them. It's serious business for state troopers anymore... they think of it as a new source of revenue. |

700 bucks?? is that for titanium gears? wow. usually buying gears and installed for me has been no more than 350-400 bucks, and that's at well known performance shops, like Dallas Mustangs and Panhandle perf. i can't believe the rates some shops charge. |

I love how people say 373 for supercharged, or 410 for NA, and there is ABSOLUTELY no inbetween
THEY DO MAKE 3.90s!!!! Get 3.90s and youll be happy. I have 3.90s. |

choosing the right gear is far beyond just the tranny and what mods your gonna do if you ask me. It need to work for your tire height, tranny gearing, weight, and power.
I would do some more research before you go out and buy some gears, this will help you pick the right gear for YOU.

Its 350 for the gear installation, and 300 for getting a basic chip for them to program, but for the future they can do other tunes on that chip so its a one time charge, and 129 for the actual gears.

Depending on what County you live in in Cali we have different smog laws.... r3dn3ck and I live in a Enhanced smog testing County, which means they use the best technology in existance to check smog, plus do a visual test. So even if our cars pass the sniffer test we would fail the visual because we are only running 2 cats rather than the required 4 cats. I know many of you think smog laws are crap, but go check out Los Angeles or other highly populated cities and you'll see why it's needed. Smog testing matters to many states or local Governments because Federal Transportation funding is tied into it. If your City/County/State goes over the Federal standards for unhealthy air a set amount of times per year......your local Government will lose Federal funding so your going to see MANY more states and local Governments all over the country probably follow Cali in the years to come.....just my prediction, but that's why your seeing States/Local Government crack down on smog testing. |

Speaking of emmisions, can someone who knows NJ laws correct if I'm wrong. As far as I know, any car after I believe 96 or 00 does not get the sniffer test but instead, they tap into your OBDII system to make sure your emission components are functioning while cars before then get the sniffer test. I believe that's how NJ works which is very easy to get around...

oh yah!
4.10s headman headers are great ****in headers... get an off road mid pipe... and **** the CAI its a waste of money... many people say that they LOST performance with a CAI... so i recomend you yank the the stock airbox/silencer out and throw on a conical filter... |
