Just ordered my 3.73's...
 

Well, I finally decided to fear the gear and order the 3.73's. Not really worried about the difference in 4.10's and 3.73's as Im only 17 and dont EVER race the car. Just needed a little more pick up in it. Now for my tech question. When you guys had your gears installed, does the installer usually provide the bearings and such, or do I need to purchase those on my own. Thanks guys...cant wait to get these suckers in. :D

Ouch. Dont fear the gear. When I had gears installed on my v6, I payed the shop $100 to replace all the bearings and such.

Prepare for god awful highway trips. ;)

Dont really do all that much highway driving. Wont mind it too much, if I do, then oh well. Mostly just a city car.

I have found 4.10's to be great for city driving. 3.73's are a good option too. I went with 4.10's as my Mustang is a third car. If it was a DD, I would have chosen 3.73's.

Yea Im going to be doing more hwy driving next year as Im going to be driving to college every morning (near home) so I dont want to be too bad I guess, even though I hear the 4.10's arent bad. Now to just get these things in and installed.:D

I'm just going with 3.90's and calling it good :)

I bought my gears slightly used, so they came with no bearings. The shop supplied a new crush collar, lube, friction modifier, and a few other things for 30 bucks. Most gears come with a new crush collar, and that is all you really need if your car doesn't have too many miles on it. If its really bugging you, just buy the bearing kit and you won't have to worry about it. BTW you probably won't find a better price on it than on this website.

Sounds like you made the right choice in gear selection for your needs.

Someoen suggested 3.90's! I never understood that gear. Just get 4.10's and don't look back. Afterall, there really is not much of a difference.

I would have gotten the 3.90s if FRPP racing made them, but they dont and I dont trust Motive enough. I dunno, just weird like that. HINT HINT FRPP!!!

i went with 3.73s but wish i could have found a good 3.90 i just didnt trust motive either i went with richmond

I am planning on getting 3.73's this week beacuase I still do some highway driving I just want a quicker take off and more power to pass

The pick-up is much better now. When I step on the pedal it blows by other cars now. I think its a good investment for any mustang and maybe it should be the first

hey matt, where are you getting them installed..b/c im also in the sc area and dont really know of a good installer(basically why i havent bought any gears yet)

Well, there are some family friends that I may be able to get to install them, but right now, there are no concrete plans. The one place that I thought installed gears doesnt put them in, so the search somewhat continues. Call your local ford dealer, Im sure their service techs can put em in for you.

i rather find someone has installed plenty of gears on mustangs..ford has a knack for charging too much...im thinking of this one place in columbia, i also know of this other place in murrels inlet, i may just call and get some estimates..thanks though

You will like your 3.73's on the street. Really wakes the car up. They did not affect my mileage at all. If you went with the Ford racing gears they are easier for your mechanic to install. Ford uses something they call the MHD which stands for the master housing deminsion. Every set of gears uses the same backspacing so there is no need for measuring back spacing. They still need to check backlash but this does help speed up the install. My 3.73's were Richmond's I replaced them with a set of Ford Racing 4.30's and the 4.30's are much quieter.

Well I called the one on Huger, I believe it was Muffler shop of Columbia, and the guy told me they didnt install rear end gears...I was like WTF mate?

damn, well, im suprised...try carolina car creations...i will check and make sure that is the right name...my friend got gears installed awhile back on his camaro..

they are mustang devoted and if they cant do it, they can refer you to someone..and they also have a dyno :)

3.73 gear no joy
 

Just woundering what is wrong with my car? I had my 3.73 installed along with my BBK CAI, underdrive pulleys, K&N air filter, and tuner from Super chips. My car was running 14.2@98mph 1/4. before the chip and gears now I run 14.4 and the cars idle is off. What are some suggestions.
