Which Heads???
Alright time for my next upgrade....I want to get a set of heads and cams. I was looking at the patriot perfomance Stage II heads with a pair of VT Stage 2 N/A cams. Any other choices, better ones? Also about how much is it to get heads installed and should I go with the stage II or III?
|
Patriot has been known to have problems with their heads. Yes I know they are regular PI heads, but the way they are built/ put together. They might of finally fixed the problem. But when it comes to heads, cams, and other significant mods like that, Id go with the proven companies. VT, MPH, Steen Racing are all good choices. Also, I recommend going with the same company for heads and cams. So if you get VT cams then get VT heads also. As far as labor costs, I have no idea. But Id also have them degree the cams since itll be a perfect time for it.

check out livernois also

That is another good place along with www.boss330racing.com

Thanks for the replys.
Also if I went with the VT heads which stage should I go with? |
VT Stage 2 heads and VT stage 2 cams would be a GREAT combo.

those problems are long gone. don't worry about it you'll just give yourself an ulcer. Install your heads and have a happy life.

Do a search on modulardepot.com.
|
I talked to someone at VT and they said with their Stage 2 Head/Cam Package it would put me at 300rwhp on a stock motor. Does that sound right? It just seems like alot of power to me.
|
it's entirely possible. I would have estimated 290rwhp being a little more conservative but 300 is entirely possible with a good tune.
|
Honestly, how hard is it to install cams yourself. I wanted to save the $600. Because they quoted me $1850 for installation of the heads.
|
it's kind of a pain in the nuts of the highest order if the motor is in the car. I had the luxury of having a motor out of the car and if you're going to do springs like you should then welcome to planet mudder fugger. If anyone is interested I can take pics and list part numbers for the easiest tool I've found to compress the valve springs. It's actually a modded Kragen cheapo but the mods make it work really well.

VT Stage 2 cams and heads
or MPH Stage 2.5 heads and custom MPH cams or VT Stage 2 cams |

I think Im going with the VT Stage 2 package.
|
Could I install the cams and springs in the head before I install the heads?
|
that would be my recommendation. it's a wild PITA inside the engine bay.
I'm sure if you send your cams and springs to your head supplier, they'll gladly assemble your valvetrain for you, possibly with a nominal charge but it'll be done right. Most head porters have a cam and spring package you can opt for for a song. |
Will this make my car louder?
Im shooting for 315rwhp including heads cams 75mm throttle body/plenum Spacer Carbon Fiber Driveshaft HPS Intake and my previous upgrades listed... could I reach my goal? Will stroking my engine increase hp and torque too? |
The spacer would be worthless with the 75mm pl/tb.
Call me stupid but what is the HPS intake?? |
ok... stupid. heheheh
it's a really killer design from HiPerformance Solutions. Check out www.hiperformancesolutions.com for more info. |
bounce the CF driveshaft, that's just more expensive than it's worth. Aluminum at most, stock is fine.
315 is a tall power goal with a stock bottom end. I'd look to 300 as a goal that's reachable without getting inside the motor too far. Aiming higher is setting yourself up for disappointment when you miss by 5. TB and plenum will be only marginally helpful. Stroking it with the head/cam/intake package may be pretty neat. Most of the strokers I've seen so far had kinda disappointing numbers for the cost but those have been pretty stock on the top end. |

Will the 2.5 MPH heads make more power than the VT heads?
|
|
Also the VT Heads come with Comp Springs so I wouldnt have to upgrade the springs, right? And do I need to upgrade my rockers and lifters? |
