Dearborn, Michigan. You pull up to the fuel pump at the local gas station and begin fueling your 2005 Ford Mustang, however, it fills very slowly. The condition may be described as, repeated fuel pump shutoffs when filling the fuel tank. According to Ford, should this condition occur, the fuel tank needs to be replaced.

While Ford has told dealers to replace the fuel tanks, the dealer will only replace the fuel tanks upon customer request. Further, Ford will not notify owners of 2005 Ford Mustangs of this condition.

Your Ford or Lincoln-Mercury dealer will install fuel tank part number "5R3Z-9002-AA" under provisions of the new vehicle warranty and the Federal emissions warranty.

I have the same problem and will be going to my local ford to have them replace it.

That is the biggest bummer about buying a new version of a car. With as much re-design they did on the 05's is pretty much an entirely new and difference car with similar styling and name. Which basically means they probably dont have all thier little bugs and glitches quite figured out. Im sure the 06's and then the 07's will not have as many problems. It is too bad ford is not trying to hard to inform people of this. Good thing for message boards!

Sure wish i had one. I think im gonna hold onto mine for several years and try to get as much paid off as possible, then upgrade to an 07 or 08 Shelby Cobra.

I have been hearing about all these up grades people are putting onto their new or fairly new mustangs. I was considering a cold air intake and the Excalibur re-tuning chip, but I found out that most up-grades will void your warranty and I am not willing to do that just yet, really until the warranty ends four years later. What are these guys going to do if something breaks and Ford finds out about these up-grades and refuses to fix them at no cost to the owner. Just a thought. Are there some things that Ford will do to up grade these cars or that they will allow to be done to these cars?

Yes, you can buy Ford racing parts and have the ford dealership install them, but the down side is really two things. Ford racing doesn't make a lot of the upgrades like cold air intakes (if they do i've never seen one) and most of us can't afford to pay the ford techs $150-$175 to install things like cold air intakes, which even novice people like myself can do at home for free. Hell in many cases the labor would cost more than the part.

Also, ford can't void your entire warranty based on a mod or mods. For instance if you install a cold air intake and you take it to the dealership because your having problems with the transmission they can't refuse to work on your transmission because of your cold air intake. One has nothing to do with the other. However, if you are having problems with something that has to do with your aftermarket product then yes they can refuse to work on it under warranty. I know for me, I keep all the original parts and if something were to go wrong I'd probably just put the original parts back on just to be safe.

Also, I'm not sure where you live, but ask around and sometimes you can find a mod friendly dealership. I don't have too many performance mods other than exhaust, cold air, diablo predator and pulleys (installing soon)....but I'm still under warranty and haven't had any problems with ford.

I only filled up once since I got it and I had no problems at all.

It is sometimes a hit or miss. Some pumps release more gas than others. But I'm getting my fixed asap so that I don’t have worry about it.

:Whaxatk: I have checked with C&L Performance and they have a combo. It is an C&L Trueflow air intake system with a Predator tuner for about $750.00. It doesn’t seem to difficult to re-tune the system, but I am a little weary about added on the air intake myself. Is it fairly simple to do, even for a person with my limited abilities. Lets just say that I will not be mistaken for a handyman. Should I hand this over to my local mechanic and let them handle it, so that I know a more competent person is doing it?

Your right the Predator Tune is really simple. It's just a matter of following some simple directions. I'm like you in the sense that my mechanical skills are very limited and I put my K&N FIPK kit on my car. When you get the cold air intake take a look at all the parts and see if it's something you want to tackle. If not find a performance shop that will do it for you. I think you can probably do it yourself. Let us know how it turns out.

Well, I put in the C&L cold air intake along with the Diablo Sport Predator combo. The air intake was not to bad to install, but there were some tricky parts to it and luckily my friend had the solutions to it. The same for the Predator. The only question I need to figure out is if gas stations have different octane then others. It did not occur to me that I would need to put in premium gas with these up-grades. But I am able to set it for 91 octane (mid-grade), because I can’t see myself paying for the premium. But when I filled up my car at my local gas station (Racetrac) it had 87, 89 and 93. I guess mid-grade is different from gas station to gas station. Predator recommenced some specific gas stations to use and I will check them out on my next fill-up. Anyway, the increase in power is noticeable and it is a little bit louder on the revs, but that if fine with me. Overall I would recommend this to anyone who wants a little more HP without going nuts.

Glad to hear everything worked out and you got some extra power. I'm not sure about your question about octane grades on the predator the 05's use. I live out in Cali where we only have 87, 89 and 91 octane. Your right about Premium gas (91 octane for Cali) and the price, there isn't any where in the country that pays more for gas than people like myself in the SF Bay Area ($2.89 for 91 octane).

Yeah, it would suck buying gas in California. My confusion that it appears that Predator listed its tunes as 93, 91 and 87. But the last gas station I went to had 91,89 and 87. I will fill up my car tomorrow and try one of the listed gas stations and see what type of octane they have. Maybe I am not understand this concept?

Buy the SCT X-Calibrator tuner. It stores your original tune and install a new one that fixes the wacky drive-by-wire throttle control problem, and adds a few ponies/#ft's as well. If you need to see the dealer, reinstall the original tune (takes about 3 minutes).

Many Ford dealers offer full lines of upgrade parts for Mustangs, including the 05 versions. Gene Evans Ford (www.gefracing.com) and Anderson Ford are famous for this. Check them out.

Thanks for the reply, but I have already bought the S&L cold air intake with the Diablosport predator. It appears to do the same thing are you have mentioned.
