Ok guys..last week or so the Stang has been acting up. Every morning when I crank the car up, it shuts off. Same thing usually happens when I leave work in the afternoon or at night. I basically have to keep one foot on the gas and brake at the same time to give it gas to keep it running. After 5-10 min of driving it stops? I talked to a friend of mine and he said he had the same prob on his TransAm and it was the throttle sensor? Any ideas on this one?

Another note..when it finally does stay running, it idles so low I can hardly hear it running.

 

try checking to make sure your TB is closing all the way, and that it is in perfect working order.

also make sure you dont have any vacume leaks, check all vacume lines to make sure you dont have a big leak there somewere.

 

yeah check all your vaccum lines, this has happened to me and it was as simple as putting a hose back on

 

but if it was a hose...I wouldn't think it would run fine after 10 min or so?

 

it might, if your computer is trying to adjust itself to compensate.

besides a cold start is were your problem is going to be at it's worst anyhow

 

did you resently add a tb and or plenum?

sounds like the cars idle is too low. could be TPS,or could be IAC. Is your car thorwing codes.

Because of what you said i would lean towards TPS is bad or broken (if you did do a tb or plenum upgrade).

Sounds like a bad IAC to me.

 

I'm voting bad vacuum or stuck open IAC. Maybe a PCV hose broke... something pretty good size has to be open to make it that bad.

 

Well then that should rule out the TPS as they dont hardly ever go bad for no reason at all.

 

Spray your iac with some carb cleaner....it will solve your problem...

deff sounds like an IAC problem, how many miles on the car? when was the last time you changed the PVC valve? and if you have, did you buy Ford or aftermarket?

 

114k on it, never replaced PCV

 

well thiers the start of your problems, PCV valve should be changed at @30k.

what happens is by not changing the PCV valve, all that crankcase gunk get re-cirulated back thru the engine and it clogges-up the IAC valve. you'll need to goto a Ford dealer and get a new IAC & PCV, "DO NOT BUY AFTERMARKET", get genuine OEM FORD parts only. if your local dealer wont help you wth pricing, let me know.

ok, good. might also get a can of Seafoam or some thrttldby/carb cleaner as Im sure your intake manifild, PCV hoses and other related parts are going tobe clogged wth sludge

 

id say an o2 sensor.

 

yup, could be those too, as O2's are usally all used up by 80k but at 115k and never changed the PCV valve, well that and the IAC are prob the cheapest and easest to change-out first

 

I seafoamed the car about a month ago.
