Adjusting Timing

Ive read that if you adust the timing on you car you can pick up some horsepower....is this true? I have the Diablo Sport if it is what could i safley run?

I'm running @ 2.5% in the lower and 3.5% in the upper on my pred.
make sure you have 93 gas, adjust in small amounts and test drive, listening for det under load, no det, go up another .5% and drive again, once you have det, drop down to the last number, I did mine on a dyno, but had to cut back once I drove it. The guy who did mine said you can run 2-3 more on the lower and up to 4 on the upper, these are over the REG pred tune that came installed already. You'll pick up a few hp.

i dont have a predator and I didn't adjust mine myself, but you can definately gain horsepower, but like dfroster said, you gotta listen for pinging, and if you hear it.. back it down. and you wanna run 93 gas afterwards and during

stock timing is at 10 degrees i believe. my car runs 25 degrees of timing. very aggressive with these cams... I have to be careful when it gets hotter to listen for pinging. mine was done on a dyno also

Keep in mind that the adjustments are a percentage. The manual doesn't say what the base percentage is, but if you assume 10* of timing as your base, then a 10% change is only 1*. If the Predator tune is set at 14* from the factory, then 10% is 1.4*.

If you have a loud exhaust and perhaps even a new TB and plenum, you may not be able to hear detonation. I advise tuning on a dyno for sake of your engine.

I pulled 25% from my Predator tune and run mid-grade gas with no detonation (I can't really hear it if it is, SLP Loudmouth from the manifolds back and 75mm TB and plenum prevents any hearing). I did this because the price of gas is friggin rediculous.

I had my car dyno tuned today on 93 octane and Tim from MPH bumped up the timing to I dont know what number but it made 8rwhp on the dyno when he did it.

I've been told that if it's pinging, its super noticeable, so I dunno /shrugs
