What does the Sct tune do????

ok i just read the thread about how good it is....what is the point of it though??? i dont no what i would do if i got 1??? i have a 5 speed so what do you do????? and how do you know how to do it???

It helps you tune your car. Makes it run to perfection.... think you need to take it to a dyno though to adjust your A/f ratio and stuff. I just know that the tune I got made me a lot faster than I was! For sure.:beerchug:

remaps fuel curves, timing, shift points (autos), adjusts for gear and tire size changes, and allows you to turn off the rear O2's to eliminate SES lights from off road X/H pipes.

You can expect to gain 5-15hp on a stock car. Slightly more on more modified engines. You should have the tune done on a Dyno with wideband A/F readings for maximum safety.

You can safely put the out of the box tune from an Xcal-2 in with little worry but beyond that I'd have it done on a dyno or you risk running too rich for good power or too lean for safety. GT motors don't respond well to running too lean for long so I'd go with the dyno route no matter what.

:stupid:

it can also improve gas milage

hey..lets take a drive up to Concord, NH where www.Performance-Dyno.com is and they can custom dyno tune your car using a SCT 4-back chip.

I had my car tuned there..and after the tune, the car felt like it took some steroids.:punk:

anyways....
Its always a smart idea to get your car tuned after so many mods. because the car needs to learn how to get the most out of them. Or all the mods can be hurting the car before a tune and u dont really know it yet.

After I had my Accufab plenum, accufab 70mm Throttle Body, JLT RAI, Mac H-pipe, Flowmaster Catback exhaust installed.. I decided to bring her to the dyno for a custom SCT tune. When they did the baseline run, The air/fuel ratio was waaaayyyy to lean. Not good at all. so they made the adjustments, Re-calibrated the MAF, advanced the timing and so on. It took about an hour for them to get the air/fuel perfect with a great tune. On my way home..the cars throttle response was so much better..and the car pulled much harder. It just felt stronger. and I gained more horsepower throught the RPMs and alot more torque.....

so yea..a tune would be a must if your car is modded.

I just installed a tune from MT and it freaking rocks...You can't go wrong with their tunes...My car pulls like you would not belive!!!!! The shift points are incredible, and the acceleration is just insane!!! I left 80ft of Rubber just slamming on the gas at a light. I can't wait to take this baby to the track....I really can't wait to install my 4:10's and my 100 shot of Nitrous!!!!!!! 12's here I come!!!!!!!!! gonna go pick on some Camaros!!!!! LOL!!!!!!!!!! GET THIS TUNE!!!!!!! MT ROCKS!!!!!

aside from A/F,timing and o2's what can a tune do for a 5 speed. we basically make our own shift points. its proly a dumb question, but i've never had anyone tell the benifits for manual stang's..

he has a 4-bank chip..not the tuner....and yes u need a tuner/chip to tune ur car...most shops charge around 150/hr...and 50-70 for 3 or 4 pulls....

my shop only charges a flat fee of $100 cause me and a bunch of friends go there so much..haha

id go w/ a tuner

03DSG 05-10-2006 08:19 PM

is that cost wih tuning, by my house livernois motor sports is something like $75 a pull, but just a pull. if you want a tune that will cost $500 and they keep your car for the day. i guess thats because when they use a tuner and its locked to your car, but i heard that dyno shops use the same tuner over and over they just are able to unlock it each time. does anybody know if this is true, cause thats bs to charge full price for a tuner over and over. I mean if i paid for it, it better be on my driver seat when i come get my car.

I placed a link of the place that I got my car tuned.... www.performance-dyno.com

I got the $399 Custom tune with the SCT 4-bank chip. Wether it takes 4 hours or 1 hour to tune your car..the cost will still be 399 for everything..great deal...

The SCT 4-bank ship is a Chip that they program the tune into... You can have 4 different programs. A little program position switch comes with it so that you can change the program on the go. For example..U could get a Nitrous tune, a 93 octane tune, 89 octane tune and so on....Click on the link...

OH...this place also has an ONLINE forum...The guy that runs the forum and answers questions is ALSO the guy that will tune your car...is name is PETE. www.performance-dyno.com

that ssounds fishy to me....

You should be able to wait and watch them tune your car on the dyno...it shouldnt take ALL day..unless your cars engine management is already all screwed up.....?

I Watched them tune my car...and it was no more than 2 hours do complete.....

some shops will want to keep your car all day so they can be really anal about waiting a half hour between runs. It should take at least 3-4 runs to get everything dialed in so you're looking at 2 hours of cool-down time plus run-up, run and eval of the results. I've tuned a few mustangs myself (on the dyno...with diablosport revolutions software. Yuk) and while it sounds simple you have to make a series of decisions based on little to no info, so there's some trial and error. The upshot is that there are some things that typically work the same from car to car so you save a little time there.

There is no tuner I've ever heard of that uses a single handheld device to tune multiple cars. If you have a tune you either have a chip in the ECU or a handheld locked to the car, or you sent your ECU in for reflashing and your stock tune no longer exists in any convenient place.
