Cam Install Question PLEASE HELP!

I installed Cams into my 02GT about a week ago. When I put the CAM Saddles/Girdles on and torqued them to spec they where a lil TIGHT. I redid the torque procedure several times and even with two bolts in they didn't spin as well as the stock cams. I figured it must be that they are NEW. So, I went with the low scale of the torque spec.I used cam assembly lube and it seemed a bit STICKY.I Wasn't able to finish the car until last night. I installed a PI torque converter and long tube headers also. Checked to make sure everything was done and set my Diablo Predator to Performance Tune. Started it and it sounded like a @#$%* diesel! Alot of valvetrain noise. Ran it for about 15 minutes and it still sounds like $hit. What gives? do the adjusters have to pump up like a hydraulic lifter? I have good oil pressure and the temp gauge went just a bit higher than usual. (I figured it was breaking in) that caused the slightly elevated temp. I'm running Mobil One 5W20 should I try a heavier oil? The Cams do say I will need a computer upgrade.  Let me know what you think.

Haven't had it tuned yet. I would of been afraid to drive it.
I ran home at lunch and fired it up and with the hood closed. It doesn't sound nearly as bad. Maybe I'm just freakin cuz I got alot of time invested in what I just did plus $'s. I adjusted my Idle RPM with the Tuner and the Exhaust sounds MEAN!:pepper: I read on another board that the Injectors may be making that noise cuz they are actually working a lil harder:confused:
I'm going to drive it around some tonight and see how it goes. :shifty:

you're sure you have them phased correctly? Could be 1 tooth off on the gears or you might be getting PTV. What cams do you have? What procedure did you use to get them in correct time?

agree could be PTV, what cams? and maybe a vid would help, cams are a little louder (engine noise) but it could be just you...get us a vid and specs on the cams

I believe I figured out my problem. I'm going to tear back into it tonight and see if I'm right. The Cam followers ride on Adjusters (lifters) .The adjusters are hydraulic. I didn't take them out and bleed them like my shop manual says. Totally overlooked that step cuz :bash: I was useing the "How to Install Aftermarket Cams & Springs" from Modular Depot. :censored: The adjusters should be compressed in a vise or C-clamp and put into a container of oil so they pump up. The engine sat for about a week before I finished the Cams. Probably leting them fill with air. The noise I have is clattering on the top end more so on the passenger side. Sounds just like a old failed hydraulic lifter from a pushrod type engine except more of them. I purposely left out what brand and type of Cams cuz a lot has been said about the Cams I bought.:poke: But here you go COMP CAMS 278"S Gasp!:devil2: Stay tuned for the follow up. I'll let you all know within a couple days.

well.. after I did my cams it makes a lot of extra noise when the hood is open, just gotta get use to that part. i didn't bleed my lifters, didn't cause me any problems either.

I believe the last step before running the car is to hold your foot on the accelerator to the floor and crank the motor. This allows the oil pressure to build up in the lifters without actually starting the engine.

Really? I don't have that in my manual. Wouldn't they pump up just idling?Do you think they may be air locked? It was approx. a week before I started the car. Took me that long as I also put in a converter & Long tubes.

Honestly I don't know for sure. Cams are not my specialty. I just remember reading that step in a few "How-To's" when I thought about doing cams last year.

well, we know you don't want to hear it as you've probably been pounded on for your cam choice already (I think the 278's are a bit too aggressive for a street car but it's your car, do with it as you please) PTV is a recurring issue with the wilder XE grinds from comp.

Check the adjusters, if you've got one somehow locked up with air, then that's easy enough to fix. Since you're only hearing it on one side it stands to reason that PTV probably isn't the issue anyway.

Good luck.. report back so we can all learn from your issue.

i didnt have to bleed mine and it sat for a few days, but if its only one side it probably isnt PTV
