Strong Enough?

I am going to be doing my L/T Header install and will be supporting my motor when I drop the K member. I am going to fabricate a custom brace to go across the fenders and support the motor. Do you think these two bolts, if replaced with longer ones, will be strong enough to support the weight of the engine?
Basically, is the manifold strong enough? |
I would think not but who knows, they could be!

Being aluminum, i wouldn't think it could support the weight, if so it might mess the threads up.
|
Thanks guys, but I think I just thought of a different way to support it. I will post pics when I get it hooked up.

Mike, Im guessing youve seen this, http://eagleequip.com/page/EE/PROD/HO/7532 or something similar and thats what you are going to make. To hold the engine you dont want to use the bolts in your picture. Instead, use the 2 other alt. bolts. This would be the ones under the alt.

Hey there, once you remove the alternator there will be two bolt holes on the block. I built a support brace using a 4x4 post and a couple of eyelet bolts. Worked great.

Yeah, that is why I posted above that I found a different way to support it. I am going to do something similar to the 4x4, but I have some steel laying around and welding experience too. :shifty:

You need something holding on to the block. Those bolts are a bad spot.
