Default X-PIPE question

Ever since I had my pypes o/r X installed I notice a pretty distinctive exhaust smell when I step out of the car after driving it and I can smell it around the car when I am outside of the car while it's running. I never had this problem with the stock H. Is it because there is no cats to convert the exhaust?:helpsmili

It's norm, you will first smell the coating burning off the ex, then you may have a almost "raw" gas smell. It's in part from no converts, it's part of the job they used to do, remove unburned fuel vapor. If I drive mine REAL hard and then park with out driving around for a minute you can get a good wiff of ex gas.

Yeah, the raw gas smell sucks especially since the 87-93 5.0 smell so great catless. Don't know what the difference could be.

Nothing to worry about, its because you have no cats, get used to it, lol... Because its not going to go away.

If you start to run "rich" meaning you starting to see heavy smoke come out the back and you car starts to sound like it has stage 2 cams in it, then you have problems.

But the gas smell is going to be there because of the fact you have no cats.

That's good, I had a feeling it was because of the unburned fuel vapors, but wanted to be sure. Thanks so much for the info...

With a new x or h pipe, they do burn off a coating and that's what you smell for a little while. i forgot all about that smell till i put a new h pipe on. it'll go away, the exhuast/gas smell...it'll be like smelling fresh air soon.

Yeah, you just need to let everything burn off of it (the coatings and such). It should be like that for about a week or so.
