Taking it to the dealer anyway, but what do you all think it is?

05 GT - Start it up after work. Drive roughly 15-20 minutes and stop at store. Start backup to go hom, and the display has a message relating to "Failsafe Mode". I quickly turn off the car, and grab my manual. The only entry in the index for Failsafe is "Failsafe Cooling".

I checked the page listed and this is what it says:

If the engine coolant supply is depleted this feature allows the car to be driven temporarily before incremental component damage is incurred.

HOW FAIL-SAFE COOLING WORKS

If the engine begins to overheat:
The engine coolant temp gauge will move to the red (hot) area
The "Engine coolant temp" indicator will illuminate
The "Service engine soon" indicator will illuminate

If the engine reaches a preset over-temp condition the engine will automatically switch to alternating cylinder operation. Each disabled cylinder acts as an air pump and cools the engine.

When this occurs the vehicle will still operate, however:
The engine power will be limited
The A/C system will be disabled

Continued operation will increase the engine temp:
Steering and braking effort will increase
The engine will eveentually shut-down

Once the engine temp cools the engine can be restarted. take your vehicle to a service facility asap.

Ok, so after restarting the car I went back point by point:

If the engine begins to overheat:
The engine coolant temp gauge will move to the red (hot) area

Nope, it's just about perfectly in the middle of the gauge.

The "Engine coolant temp" indicator will illuminate

Nope, no light is on.

The "Service engine soon" indicator will illuminate

Nope, no light is on.

If the engine reaches a preset over-temp condition the engine will automatically switch to alternating cylinder operation. Each disabled cylinder acts as an air pump and cools the engine.

When this occurs the vehicle will still operate, however:
The engine power will be limited
The A/C system will be disabled

Power levels seem normal to me and the A/C worked fine on low and felt arctic on Max

Continued operation will increase the engine temp:
Steering and braking effort will increase

Nothing noticable at all in any extra effort needed.

I also did the "System Check Button" and when it did the "Engine Coolant Tempature" check, it came back as "OK".

I stopped at the dealer and told them what was happening, but they cna't see me until tomorrow. I was going to check my coolant level, but it's pooring rain out right now.

So any ideas as to what the hell my car is or isn't doing?

Hopefully just a bad sensor some where!

Hmmm. Seems to be a lotta bugs in the 05/06's.

Must be running some version of Windows. :shifty: :devil2: :shifty:

By the way, I did check the coolant level, and it was about right in the middle of the Cold Fill Range. I'll let you all know what the dealer says.
