Tuners

Hypertech, Diablosport or SCT, and why?

Found a Hypertech for $279.00.

Which would make the most power on my 2001 GT 4.6 2V?

Heres the thing.....you can't go wrong with either Diablo or SCT....they are both good tuners. The key is to find out what software dyno tuners in your area are using and go with that brand. If you have Diablo and all the tuners in your area use SCT or vice versa your going to be pissed off cause the tuner you got isn't going to do anything for you. Also most "canned" tunes suck and if you keep modding the car your going to need to eventually need to put it on a dyno to have it tuned

I think you'll find most tuners these days are using SCT. I found a couple of shops that used both Diablo and SCT and they both said they prefer SCT.

Thank you for your information and reply. Mark M :punk:

Yep he pretty much covered it!!

Get an SCT xcal 2. Look at all the big HP 2v and 4v mod motors. They ALL are ran by SCT XCALs. They are a tad bit more adjustable and it reads codes on all ford makes. Not stuck to a certain band of years like diablow. If you ever got a new mustang or older or whatever, you can just have your xcal changed.
i have an xcal 2 and its great.

I have a dyno chart of the diablo tuner that gave my car a whole 4hp... the only thing it is good for is changing the speedo and turning off traction control besides that horsepower wise it sucks...

Zaff03GT 04-06-2006 06:26 PM

the diablo sure made the car feel different for me.

jjtgiants 04-06-2006 06:34 PM

I went to my tuner with the thought he was going to get me some big HP numbers using the Diablo Predator and boy was a wrong.....the Predator just didn't give him enough flexibility.....so I ditched that idea and had him load a custom tune directly to the ECU without using the Predator...which worked great.....If I could do it all over again I'd go with SCT xcal 2

Go with what your tuner knows!

I went the SCT route because that is what my tuner uses. They used to use Diablo but had too many problems with support and other things so they went to SCT and haven't looked back. So they said.

I went with diablo. You could purchase a custom tune and it will increase your horsepower to about 11-13. I got 12 out of mine, just with a custom tune.

markm 04-07-2006 09:03 PM

What do you mean buy purchasing a custome tune? Does that mean that you order it inside of the tuner? Mark M

When you go to a shop that can do tunes they will use the dyno to build a tune just for your car.

Custom tune is opposed to the out of the box tune you can do with tuners (SCT or Diablo).

We've gotten the tuning software and become a dealer at my boy's local shop for SCT....and it's awsome! We recently tuned a ROUSH F-150 and the gains were amazing, as far as i'm concerned i'de recommend SCT tuning to anyone just from tuning with it 1st hand! I'm looking very soon to doing some more upgrades and tuning mine and see what kind of gains we can get.

On the Roush truck, it came in on a roush-flash tune making 247whp @4500, and left our shop making 329whp @6000 with SCT and turning on 22" HRE's

When a car has been custom tuned at a shop, can that tune be down loaded into a SCT hand held so you can put the car back to stock tune and put it back at the cusyom tune any time you want? Mark M :)

Blk02stang 04-08-2006 01:35 PM

If the shop tunes it with SCT tuning software, then yes it can be uploaded to your tuner, along with the factory tune being saved also. It's very easy to swich the tune from the custom tune back to the factory one.

Man, that is to cool! Does anybody know of a shop that tunes Mustangs in the So Cal area? I'm in Fontana CA. The Ontario and San Berdoo area.

But I'm also close to Orange county and L.A. Mark M:beerchug:

There is an SCT dealer in Upland with a dyno. I am in San bernardino County as well, in twentynine palms. Here is the Link: Valley Tuning Service The website says they use both diablosport and SCT2 so i am going to call them before i buy a tuner to find out which one they prefer using.

Blk02stang 04-08-2006 06:44 PM

Codiddy, i'de recommend SCT due to having soo many option to tune with (over 400 options) along with getting more power gains than Diablo.

That seems to be the general consensus when i ask around. I want to get an SCT, but the only thing i am curious about is can you adjust the rev limiter and the speed limiter with it? the website doesn't list this as one of its functions but has it listed as function for the SF flash device. the diablosport website does have rev/speed limiter listed. as long as the SCT2 can do this i would want to get it instead of diablo.

If you go to the SCT website you can put in your zip code and they list all of the authorized SCT dealers and dyno tuners. Good luck!

Blk02stang 04-09-2006 09:59 AM

yes, with the SCT if it is custom tuned, then the speed limiter can be changed all the way up to 255mph...i dont think anyones gonna be going that fast though. we had our last vehicle doing 175mph on the dyno...and it was a truck! so i works good and it doesnt throw off the speedo off at all. As for rev limits i think you can change it up to 10k rpms, but i dont recommend that as does SCT they only suggest going to 7k. You wont be disapointed at all with it!

I had diablo on my old mustang and i was very pleased with it untill our shop started messing with SCT and i say hands down SCT is the way to go now.

phillipGT 04-09-2006 06:25 PM

ok there is this guy around here who is selling one for a nice price and he used it on his 04 mustang gt. i have an 01 can u reset it to factory default?

Blk02stang 04-09-2006 06:30 PM

the only way you can use it to tune your car is if he de-tunes his car and returns it to factory settings, or a local tuner if you know them good enough can reset the tuner to being blank, we had to do this already with one tuner. Basically the tuner would be completly cleared of everything and have nothing, not even diagnostics untill it was re-loaded with a new program flash.
