mods for an automatic

one of my friends just bought a 99 gt with an auto. he wants to know what he can do make it faster. with just a catback and lowering springs he ran a 14.3. what kind of gears should he get and is it recommend to get a transmission cooler?

My last stang was a 2001 auto. I still have the set of 4.10's I was going to put in, but I'm putting them in my new stang. He should be able to do all the regular mods, like pulleys, gears, some type of t/b plenum maybe. Does he want to stay n/a or go with like a supercharger down the line? Also get some good sticky tires for the track also.

Autos take to mods a little differently. I have a friend running 13.1 with his 2000 auto with nothing but bolt-ons and some good tires (DR's on light rims), so his car has a lot of potential.

Autos need 4.30's and a chip or a programmer. The programmer will allow you to raise the rev liniter and allow the car to shift more firmly. This will not add hp, but will result in dropping your ET. Also, a tourque converter is a great mod. That is how my bud is able to get in the low 13's...the converter and the 4.30's with timing advanced using a TA.

Yes, gears and a torque converter will definately wake an automatic car up. Tell him to research around for some of the more popular brands. Something like PI Stallion or Stallion something rings a bell. I cant remember.

He will need to go into his piggy bank though for it. That was one thing I didn't like about my auto. It's so much better to actually drive the car now.

there area few mods you should do.
1-shift kit, i highly recomend transgo shift kits. summit has them for 109shipped.
2-transcooler, summit carries the B&M supercoolers, get the 24,000gvw cooler and you'll never over heat it again.
3-convertor. i had a B&M 3,000rpm nitrous hooleshot it was great for when i was just cruising or on the bottle.

and if you can a deep tranny pan will also help to keep your beast cool.

Some great mods for an automatic... you can look into Trans-go.. they make automatic shift kits that are incredible.. im talkin about barkin tires in third gear stock... you can also look into little things like computer modules...like the popular Venom or things like ingnitions, they make alot of difference, any of this might help

:D My first two stangs where automatics, but then I finally got a stick and I will never go back. It's more fun now that I can drive the car.
