If its the same as the 99-04s,

1. pull the light knob outward (turn them on)
2. Insert a small flat screwdriver in slot at rear of knob. There will be a metal tang, pull it forward.
3. As you are doing #2, pull on the whole knob, it should pop right off.

I think i just pulled the thing off when I took mine off a few times. Takes a little force. Might want to try to screwdriver thing first though.

hahaha, good luck using a screw driver... you cut and pasted didnt you... seriously its a bitch to get that piece off. get like a bent nail or something with a little bit of a hook because you have to pull the little metal piece out towards you.. cant do it with a screwdriver because that will only push it up, not out. get something you can pull it out away from the shaft.

I just used one of those tiny flat head screwdrivers and braced it with a box knife so I wouldn't scratch the dash. It came off in less than 2 secs.

on mine you have to use a small item (aka anything small enough to fit in) and push the metal tab down and pull the nobe off.

Default broke it

I'm the patient type, so I tried for 30 minutes without success before I gave up and destroyed the plastic knob (I was installing a billet item anyway).

After removal I saw the spring metal tab everyone's talking about. I believe its not really meant to work, just make you mad.

Actually, all the advice here looks good - I've now got a small, cheap little screwdriver I bent into a hook shape that does the job like magic.

...though I kinda enjoyed wrecking that plastic know. Catharctic.

I painted my interior pieces, and all i had to do was pull it off. It took a lil force, but not much. Then it just slips back on.
