Default need opinions on test results

I am a new member to this site and i would appreciate getting some input as to which way to go based on dyno and track results on my car. I have an 04 cobra that has a 2.80 pulley, cold air kit, hard launch kit, afco heat exchanger,m/t street radials, and a custom tune from a sct tuner from rpm outlet.I had it dynoed on amustang dynamometer and it yielded me with 400.2 hp.@5000 rpm.and487.1ft.lbs.of torque@3000 rpms.At the track i was able to get a 12.2 at110mph.I was wondering if a diffrent tune would be beneficial based on what other cobra owners have done to their cars.

Those numbers sound extremely low to me for all the mods you have done. I think most cars with your mods are in the 450 rwhp range. Do you have any exhaust work done? That could be a big factor. Anyway, I would get it on a dyno and have a custom chip burned for it with the mods you have done just to be safe. Prolly get some more power out of it that way too.

like madmatt said get a dyno tune. ive seen 380 hp to 420 hp stock so stock you were a little on the low end but still nice numbers. an exhaust will bring those numbers up to a respectable level.

arent the numbers always kinda lower on an actual mustang dyno...so have you seen 450rwhp on a mustang dyno is the question?

the mustang dyno is made specifically for the mustang and has better programming ...kinda like buying a general mustang chip or getting a custom burnt program

Mustang dyno's are not made and designed specifically for the Ford Mustang,it is just one of the brands of different dyno's out there. The same car on the same day can have different dyno numbers depending on what brand of dyno, the calibration of the dyno and corrected numbers for altitude and weather. Dynometers are a excellent way to check baseline horsepower and to re-dyno after making any adjustments or changes as long as you recheck using the SAME DYNO as the initial run for comparisons. Typicaly the Mustang dyno will show lower horsepower numbers on the same vehicle when compared to other brands(wich doesnt mean its a bad dyno) My Harley dyno's 5 percent higher numbers on the dynojet dyno comapred to the mustang dyno my brother in law owns. Keep using the same dyno each time you make a change unless you are just looking for a piece of bragging paper.

I agree the Mustang dyno's typically read lower, and not all dynos are calibrated the same -- though the dyno makers would like you to think otherwise. I wish I had a family member that owned a dyno. Where is this dyno? I am in the northern metro, too.

My brother in laws dyno is strictly for bikes. There is a car dyno in Blaine aprox 1/4 mile east of the highschool and also in Crystal at SS performance on county rd 81 and corvalis. I'm not sure what brands they own or what they charge per hr or run but I think you could make a couple of pulls for aprox 60-100 dollars? E-mail me if your looking to have a bike ran on the dyno

Mustang Dynos are as much as 12% lower that a dynojet. I have no idea what they do differently but they will give you lower readings. If they were off 10% that would put you at 440 - 450 rwhp. Still seems a little low for your mod's. I would find a good SCT tuner and pay for a dyno tune.

there is much more info needed to be beneficial with advice. The best place to start is with analyzing the drag strip time slips for info, such as 60 foot times. I would also like to know how tall the rear tires are and what rear axel gears your running and if you have any exhaust system modifications? I watched a guy with a 04 cobra with similar mods as yours run 11.70 last fall on a cool dry day,I don't remember his miles per hour but I believe it was low 120's

I really appreciate all the responses i have received from the members of this forum including yours.Let me provide some additional info. 60ft.time-1.769,eigth mile-7.879. m/t drag radials are 25.7 in.diameter, factory tires are 26 in. I'm running stock gears 3.55:1. All testing has ben done with stock exhaust system. I have just added a magnaflo catback but haven't had it dyno'd again.

your 60 foot times are better than I thought they would be considering the low miles per hour at the end of the quarter. With the power adders you have ,the tire size and gear ratio isn't bad for a street driven car (I wouldn't go much lower than a 3.73) I don't believe the magnaflow cat back will net you more than 5-10 horsepower, but I,m sure it will sound nicer. The weather can play a role on how well your car run's and it could take a few different times at the strip to average out your times and to fiqure out things like how many rpms to launch at or what rpm's to shift at for quickest et. GOOD LUCK! Keep us posted on your results.
