Default Is the 05 GT the best baseline GT ever????

Just curious: Does anyone on here have an 05 GT or driven one? If so how was the power, ride and all that good stuff? I know just about every Mustang magazine I've read said the 05 might be the best baseline GT ever.

Personally, I'm still trying to warm up to the new body style. I've seen a few on the road and they look huge coming down the street compared to the 99-04 style. I do know the vert is going to be a sweet ride.

Any thoughts?

Josh

Mine 05 GT rides great and handles a whole lot better than the least models and it has a bunch of power. mine is a 5-speed.

I just Test Drove the new 05 GT. Why are sales people so stupid? Anyway after I told the salesman all abought the car he asked if I wanted to take it for a spin. Hell ya with a huge grin. Anyway got the car to the I95 going South and the traffic was to bad to get on it but I"ll tell you the car is strong and it will make you want to go faster. I couldn't hear the exhaust because I have SLP. But it shifts nicely into and out of gear the car is quick to get to speed. Black on black looks tight. After getting into my car and driving it back to my house I really wish I could afford to drop the cash on the spot!
Damn being in the military and not getting paid sucks! It's a very good car and with a few grand the car can be even better!

You got me on the sales person question. That's 99.9% of the reason I won't go drive one. They are pushy and always trying to pull little tricks. It's stupid. It sounds like a pretty sweet ride, but by the looks of your mods you probably could give an 05 a run for it's money!

Do you know if the 03/04 Mach 1 is faster in the 1/4 mile than the 05 GT??

I am pretty sure that the mach 1 is faster at the 1/4 because they hace different heads on them and produce more power

It is the fastest GT ever produced. I saw a bone stock 5 speed running 13.6's and he was not power shifting or leaving all that hard off the line.
Motor Trend claims to have run 13.4 with an automatic.
The 5 speeds put down 265-275 rwhp that's about 310-320 at the crank. They have 3.55 gears and a better suspension than the older cars.
I would think that with the right driver, slicks and pulling out the spare, jack, rear seat you could take a crack at the 12's on a cool day. These cars will be a force at the track in another year or so.

The car I tested drove great and had loads of power. I could easily see pulling a mid 13 with one. If you don't mind sitting in an interior that looks like it came out of a Kenworth.

personally the body style of this one is taking me awhile to get use to. i like the 99-04 body style better (more stocky look) but it does drive better but i would never buy a brand new 05 for the price they are asking due to in 2-3 years you can get the car for almost half the price.... also i think the gt should not have a tail... look at this one...from MustangWorld

Yeah, I agree they are asking WAY too much for the 05 right now. Like you say, they will go down in price in a year or so. I'd be curious to know if Ford is meeting or exceeding their sales numbers for the 05's. Is it true Ford had an issue with the GT transmission so they sent them back to the factory and that's why we haven't seen a lot of GT's??

Wow the more i see these cars the better I like em. I swear, if I ever got the 05 GT. The first thing I would do is switch out the rims. The stock rims are ugly

yeap there are alot of people that i know, that are not really ford mustang fans that are buying the 05 mustang. so Ford is over booked with orders.... i bet in a couple of years these folks after they get it out of the thier system and resell for alot less in price... mustang fans like us have liked the stangs since the first time we saw it or heard it. beside you never want to buy the frist model year of anything.. let them work out the bugs

In pure numbers alone, yes.

In styling... well, I still like the 60's better.

Looks aside, I think they are far and away the best stock Ford made mustang ever with the exception for the 03-04 Cobra.

Thanks for serving our country. My take is this, since I owe nothing on my Gt I can build a faster Mustang. If I were to get the new 05 i would be 26k down the hole. It is the best base model GT that has been made just the ride height tells you alot about suspension good by 4x4. When the SN95 1st came out I did not like them and now I own one.

We finally got another GT delivered to work today. I was the lucky one to do the pre delivery inspection. I took it out for about a 10 mile drive, (I kinda got my ass chewed out for doing it but it was worth it!) My impressions are as follows.

Yes it is the best stock GT to date

Stock to stock it will beat a 99-04, but a mildly modded 99-04 will give it a good race.

The first mod should be wheels and tires, the traction out of the hole is terrible they make Gatorbacks feel like DR's

They handle better and feel more refined than the older models.

I hate the feel of the shifter, but never missed any gears.

I cant wait to race one with my 04!!

I agree with you I think they look good but I still like the more aggresive look of the 99-04. My fiance says it (99-04) looks like a cat about ready to pounce

I agree but I'm not so anxiously awaiting the unveiling of 06-07?? Cobra whenever they decided to let the cat out of the bag. If there are a few things I like about it I may consider trading.

That's true for the 04's because of the dealer incentives. My 04 GT premium package was MSRP $26,900, but I got incentives and a lot of haggling. I payed $21,350 total because it was half way through 04 and the 05's were coming.

When they introduced the 05 in October of 04 you could get none of those rebates at all. You paid the sticker price. IMO, wait till late this year and see if the incentives will be there. I would love to see a Cobra version of this baby. Also I saw an 05 with complete ground affects, dual exhaust, custom wheels, It looked like a real sweet GT! $19,500 HMMM. Nope not a GT, just a customized V-6 mustang. But had the look.

The more I see the '05's, the more hoe-hum I am about them and the more I continue to like my 2000. (at least, that's my story and I am sticking to it)

like rebelyell was saying it's all about the incentives.
i also just bought an 04 gt about 3 weeks ago. sticker was 25,700 and i got it for $19,700 at 2.9%. from what i've looked at you can't touch an 05 gt for less than 4% interest. they just aren't offering the incentives because they are so popular.

i do like the body style but i would want a scoop on the hood and some different wheels. i'm not a huge fan of the interior either. its okay but i like my 04.
