I use a Cobra, and it works just fine... then again I have a CB system in the car so that helps too (those truckers always know where the 5.0 are at all the time)..

Currently its not on my 'stang, I took it off for the winter (as well as the radio)... but you want to put the antenna as far away from the engine as possible, so I put it on the top of the trunk. The majority of the antennas out there are magnet mount, which is all the better, but the trunk of my mustang isn't metal, so I put an adhesive to stick it down in the corner of the spoiler and then take a 10gauge speaker wire, wrap it around the base of the antennas and have it run down to a self-tapping screw drilled into the metal frame of the car. With a CB radio, the antenna has to be grounded, if you put it on a metal surface (With the magnet mount) you're all set, but if you can't, just ground it with the speaker wire.

My antenna, radio, and detector are all from cobra.. www.cobra.com, http://www.cobra.com/index.php?page=...ct_id=373&id=1 to be exact on the radar detector

you don't even need a V1 to get good coverage though.. I mean, hypothetically even without the CB, if you have a decent radar detector that can cover the majority of the radar and the laser frequencies, they'll give you enough time to drop it down.. so why spend all your money on a V1 when you can get a decent one for $200 less and still have the same Heads Up?

I have a high quailty rocky moutain one, paid 200 bux for it on ebay. I'm going to sell it tho and get the V1, once you have a detector, you realize how nice it would be to know where the radar is coming from, and as far as I know the V1 is the only one which can do this.

I've got a V1...but I have dubbed it the CVS finder, as it finds any CVS that I come near.

But seriously though, i've had a few saves from Laser already. Def worth the moolah.

V1 is THE best radar detector on the market. There is nothing close to it. You know why? Because it tells you where you are being hit from, what you are being hit with, the strength of it, and how many there are. And once you get used to it, all you have to do is listen to it instead of looking. there are different beeps and sequences of it, so if you learn those, all you do is just drive and its like 2nd nature to listen to em and know whats going on around you.

Lol same here, and it saved you from a lazer?...hmmm maybe cuz the cop tagged the person infront of you, otherwise thats nearly impossible... My cobra picks up state troopers running radar on their cars, but as far as Lazers go...a detector is more of an OH **** meter...

Well if you want to spend $400 on a radar detector just to find out where its coming from... thats your choice, but I just don't see the need to find out where it originated from, just that you should most likely drop it down hard (if you're speeding). :dots:

And I believe the $200 Cobra picks up all of the lasers and radars, except for the Spectre III? Not too sure on that one... but to go along with the laser hits I agree that its really hard to be saved from them, because they're usually pinpointed on to the car, where as a radar is a broad hit. This might explain why the regular X and Ka band alerts (beep... beep.. beep beep beep BEEP BEEP BEEP!!) are a little different from the laser alerts, which sounds like you've been painted by a surface to air missile.

The V1 can be hidden.......only way they would find it is if they made you step out and searched it.

I don't how much truth there is to this but I've heard that the cops can tell if you have one even before they pull you over... It shows up on their radar gun or something.

Most radar detectors have VG2 blocking that sometimes work. But yes sometimes I've seen that it doesnt get blocked. I'm sure the V1 has a better system against that.
