GT with Cobra Emblems???
 

For some reason this bothers me so I thought I'd share it with you guys. I ran accross a 03 or 04 Silver GT with Cobra and SVT emblems all over it, however I know it was a GT because of the rear bumper and fog lights. Does this bother anyone else or am I just being anal???

I'm a proud GT owner and wouldn't dress my car up with Cobra emblems....because it's not a Cobra! ha ha

Maybe I'm being a hypocrite cause I have several Mach 1 parts on my GT, however only GT emblems.

Worse is when a v-6 adds them on. What could have given away that is was not a Cobra the 16in rims 225 in rear tire? I am adding a Cobra block but I will not put a Cobra emblem on my GT. Real Mustang gear heads will not be fooled.

It doesn't really bother me except if they tried to pass off the car as authentic. No offense to non-cobra owner but I always feel I have to defend myself when someone asks, "Is that a real cobra?" I guess there are so many clones being passed off as real.

Its not my style. But to each his own. I put retro 66 GT badges on mine becuase I wanted it to stand out.

My friend has a GT with just the side cobra fender emblems. I want to get the Cobra emblem to go with a mach 1 grill delete. I just like the look of it compared to the running pony which is everywhere. Either that or just have the mach 1 grill delete with no emblem.

I agree that its lame to try and pass your car off as a cobra if its not. To me, its stupid. Id never try because people that really know mustangs, know what a gt and a cobra sound like to begin with, so my exhaust is a dead giveaway. Just my two cents.

i hate that, would rather see no emblems instead.

It bothers me, even though I am being somewhat hippocritical since I have SVT rims on my V6. It's not my intention to pass it as a Cobra, I put them on because they match my paint exactly, and my friend was selling them because they wouldnt fit on his SHO.
I see a fake Cobra around sometimes, its got Cobra badging, including grill badging, but the rims, the hood, the bumper, the auto trans, the speedometer going to 150, and the spoiler give it away. If you're going to make a fake Cobra, at least dont be lazy about it.

I think the challenge is to give your mustang a different look without passing it off as something its not.

So I have another question. How do you guys feel about v-6 mustangs with the Saleen body kits?t his doesn't bother me too much, but it looks funky unless the v-6 has dual exhaust.

I want to disclose that I'm not picking on v-6's at all, I've owned two of them and loved each one of them.

The problem is not putting on parts from diff stangs its the fact that the emblems is used as well when they have not done a full conversion and its obvious that its not a Saleen,Cobra,Roush etc. I have a Saleen wing, Roush wheels and Mach 1 chin spoiler but I donot have an emblem from any of those on my stang.

Badging a v-6 or GT with emblems other than their own is bad...however, getting rims, brakes, body kits is not bad as long as you are not putting import style body kits on (spyder, z3 etc). These rules imo are somewhat hypocritical because it is considered okay to badge your car the other way....putting v6 on Cobra etc. which are called sleepers. This, by the way, is and has been a subject of considerable debate amongst the Mustang community. I've thrown my arms up and have to say, do what you want to your stang because its yours, nobody elses.

There's nothing worse than misbadging. I would rather see the most riced out hot pink Mustang with the right badging than a super sleek one with the wrong badging, and no, GTs are no better than V6s in this case. If they misbadge, they're equally dumb. :naka:

You hit the nail on the head. Do whatever you want to customize your stang to your personal liking, but if your gonna do a full conversion you might as well buy the real thing...or at least omit the badges/emblems.

yeah I know people who have Cobra R rims or even the Cobra front bumper and several of us have Mach 1 chin spoilers and grille delete kits. So I think putting other mustang parts on your stang is cool, but keep the same badges! Just my two cents

I agree its cool to add 'cobra' parts to the car, (even us sixers) so long as you dont throw alot of extra badgin on there and try to make people think its authentic... as for Rims mine (charcoal bullitts, with the rear space =D) have little cobra centercaps, not the SVT cobra but one of the cobraconcepts ones, its a really thin version and look a bit more alike a real snake, and i like them better than the running pony centercaps (my brother has a set of the OEM ones on his 01'silverGTvert) so it helps my car stand out a little more, not like its hard to do that around here anyway. In my town we have a bunch of mustangs... All stock, the furthest anyone goes are the bumper inserts... =/

As far as the 'sleeper' concept goes i would'nt throw GT badges on a new cobra, lol, i would actually put the running ponies from a 6 on there... =D

Whats the difference between making a cobra, saleen, roush, etc clone and what they did in the muscle car era making gto, ss, shelby, copo, etc clones.

I dont have a problem with it. Imitation is the ultimate form of flattery. If they can back it up with performance more power to em.

GT with mach 1 grill delete, mach 1 chin spoiler, and bullitt fuel door. However its surely not passed off as anything other than a GT.

Swap in a cobra engine (And all corresponding parts to make it work effectively) then I dont care... Honestly, I think having a car named after two completly nonrelated animals is weird enough and seeing mixmatched symbols (Horse on your seats and a snake on your fender) looks silly anyway but you're not exactly a poser if you actually have a Cobra engine and if you did the work yourself, well then, you're cool enough to pull it off.

Saleen/Roush/Steeda stuff... Whatever, they kinda rely in aftermarket sales anyway, if people ask you, however, you better either say it's a replica or take it to get personally signed (and paperwork filled out) by maker to call it authentic. Because if you take your S281 into a Saleen dealership for a warranty claim and they turn you away, well, the previous owner deserves a smackdown for lying to you.

What I hate most is the V-6 owners that get the Saleen bodykits and add a non functional tailpipe inorder to make it look like dual exhuast. And then have a bumper that states SALEEN. This makes me more mad than seeing any mustang with the cobra emblem when it is not. Another add on is when someone puts one part that is Steeda on their car, (ex. shift knob, timing adjuster, or underdrive pullies) and think that they are now a Bonafied Steeda car and then slap on the steeda emblems and use the Steeda window decals.

To each his own... I agree! With body kits and wings and what not, however, when you get the emblems your not only faking yourself out but you almost saying that your ashamed of what you have and the work you have put into it. I have all kinds of cosmetic stuff in the work, but if the GT badges come off then it will be clean, no cobra or saleen or roush stickers here. I'll have a clean GT look what I put my time and my money into!! It also mis-represents the car your lookin like if you happen to go at it with a import or lesser of another make! Chevy has this problem to SS and Z28 emblems on a V6... these people should have special plates!!

I had SS emblems on my V6

Of course it was an S10 SS, which came with a V6.

I totally agree, ive seen a V6 and a GT around here with Cobra badges... Total lamo. Not fooling anybody.

If you bought a V6 be proud to have an american muscle car.
If you bought a GT then be proud to have a GT
If you bought a COBRA then damn, yer the man.

Sitting there and putting SVT emblems on a GT just says you wish it was a cobra and you juct couldnt afford one.

However, if you buy Cobra breaks, hell, it has it stamped on it. who cares. Just dont change the badges on yer car.

Have pride in what you own, dont try to make it something it is not.

I am thinking of buying a Saleen body kit, but i garauntee you it will sat GT everywhere, the body kit is just a body kit. As long as i dont put SALEEN all over it then im not pretending to have something i dont.

to me it is the same thing as a riced out honda your giving people the thought that its a fast car when infact its not. fast cars get respect for one reason their fast so they dont need emblems but puting gt or cobra emblems on a v6 to me is the same as puting vtech on a non vtech honda their just posing (rice) there is a kid in my town that has a 2000 5spd vs black and its a poser it has all the 2000 cobra R stuff front facia rear wing and hood and it even had the side exit exaust and the cobra R rims at a dead stop youd think its a cobra until he starts it then its just a disapointment and a wast of money Id rather have a car thats fast and ugly than bueatiful and slow

Honestly, there is nothing wrong with a V6. There are many fast 6 Cylinder cars out there and if you throw on boost to a V6 Mustang, you've got a very competetive car. There is no need to muck it up with Cobra emblems. I just read about a supercharged V6 in Mustang Enthusiest that will blow away most people's modded GTs and probably even an 03 Cobra. (near 400 for both rwhp and torque). And that car doesn't have any snakes on it. It doesn't need it. There is something to be said for pushing out that kind of power both for the capability of the 3.8 and also the skills of the builder.
On the appearance side of things, as a general rule it's best to try to not be a replica anything. Mix and match, come up with a new combination, put on some unique emblems... that's the way to go.

My V6 is consistently mistaken for a Cobra or Saleen even though there is no such badging on the car. It does have a Razzi body kit and a grille delete kit which does kindof makes it look like a Cobra. I guess most guys can't tell the difference between the fake and the real.

I don't have a problem with guys putting on a saleen hood or cobra bumper or whatever... just don't put the wrong emblems on your car.

Im going to remove all badges and put my own custom one. Trying to find someone that does is a bit tough.

puting shleby gt 350 emblems on the new 05's thats what im gonna do after i stripe the car and add a hood scoop, i will be close to 350 HP so i figured it made since, and snice they do not make them yet then i would not be ripping anything off it would just be different, is that ok?

What kind of stripes are you getting that will add 50hp, I might be interested in those.
