Superchips Max Micro Tuner vs. SCT Xcalibrator??

I'm looking to purchase a tuner for my 03 GT, but I'm not sure which product is best. Superchips Max Micro Tuner or SCT Xcalibrator??? I know they are essentially made by the same company, and have a good reputation, but what is the difference between the two.

The only performance based mods include K&N FIPK and Magnaflow cat back exhaust. I'm just really looking for a little extra hp and something to set the speedo when I finally get 3:73 gears.

Well first off the excalibrator is not a tuner it loads a program like a tuner but you can not adjust anything.

Get a SCT hand held tuner if you want to do that. or a diablo predator. as for which one of the 2 is better that you said. the micro tuner was made for vehicals with stock or only lite air and intake upgrades and gives a little bit of HP not nearly as much as the SCT products will.

Thanks Dustin I really appreciate the help. It sounds like the xcalibrator would be better for me if I were going to do some serious mods like a supercharger, but if I'm possibly just going to ad an x-pipe and 3:73 gears it would better to get the max micro tuner.

Are you running with with a tuner or xcalibrator?

Josh

I have used the regular superchips tuner, not to be confused with the SCT tuner and i didnt really like it. i used it in my 4.6 f150 it didnt add any hp i could feel or see (tested it in the 1/4 mile) but it did adjust my speedo. If it was me i would get the SCT tuner or the flasher like the xcalibrator.

imo i would go with a diablo sport predator tuner. it has more options and still can hold a custom tune. unless you are getting the micro tuners very cheap i would go with the predator.

Thanks guys. I probably will go witht the Diable Predator. Should I expect an 5-8 hp gain from a tuner?

I don't have a tuner yet because I'm waiting for more mods but I have done extensive research on the tuners, chips etc. and the brand that everyone recommends is SCT. The predator ranks up there too but when 99% of people I have spoken to (believe it or not, even a couple of Ford techs) say SCT is the way to go, then I tend to believe that it is good quality. To answer your question, depending on mods, anywhere from 2-17 rwhp.

I made the mistake of not doing enough research on tuners and bought the hypertech hand held tuner and have been dissapointed with performance seat of the pants feeling and the lack of adjustments I can make.Although I can adjust wide open throtle shift points I was dissapointed that I can't adjust shift points at partial throtle openings. I wish I would of purchased the diablo sport predator. I have seen a ad on spike tv power block about a new tuner from crane cams that will even allow perhaps more adjustments and tunes than the predator (such as tunes for upgrading cams) After looking into the crane tuner I found out at this time crane only offers it for the chev v8 engines

There are actually three products. I have had the first two and also am SCT 4 Position Flip Chip. Incidently, SCT is kind of a spin-off of Superchips. They have little affliation.

Super Chips Max Micro Tuner (Black One) - Don't waste your money. Product is VERY limited. If you can buy one very cheap, might be worth it just as a code reader or for gear adjustment. The tune will only work if you car is stock...or close to being stock. The tune can NOT be changed.

SCT Extreme Flash Tuner (Blue One) - Awesome product. Can store upto 4 tunes (3 custom and 1 stock). You have no ability to change things yourself. The programmer will setup when you order based on mods. If you require a tune change, you must send it in, or have a tune emailed to you if you have the right cable. IWhen I had mine, I had stock tune, 87 octane tune for my mods (gears, etc), 93 octane tune, and a nitrous tune. Reads codes etc... just like all of them.

SCT Xcalibrator - Identiclal to above except it downloads (flashes) programs in one minute instead of three. Actually, I am not sure if it read codes.

Personally, I prefer all of the SCT stuff over Diablo. The Diablo Pred. has more user features...things you can change. BUT, the adjustment in some cases are soo minor that they don't make much of a difference anyway. That's the idea too. Diablo does not want to put these things in the hands of beginners who would blow up their motors, so the changes are really minor. It only hold one tune too.

If you like to tinker constantly, prefer a prettier case, and have NO plans for ever getting into more serious mods, then get th Diablo. Otherwise, go SCT.
