Should I buy my friend's 01 cobra?
 

I'll have pics up soon, but its a convertible, yellow 01 cobra. The guy has full exhaust headers, x-pipe, catback...3.73's, and apparently other engine mods to help him reach a 11.9(or so he claims, but he wont tell me the mods til i test drive it). the guy is in his late 40's and will be getting an 03-04 cobra so needs to get rid of his....


should I get it? I will post pics of it as soon as I can. As for mileage..I'm not exactly sure, but count on somewhere under 50k.

if it's a good price heck yeah I'd buy it. Stock those things are 320hp and 317tq so more or less 320/320 with some of the mods you're probably in the 350 range at the crank. Put a charger on that and you've got yourself a F-body killer. It would be kind of a sleeper too because alot of the F-body guys look for the 03-04 hood. Ohh that would be fun

If its only like 15-16 thousand, go for it, but any higher, and Id honestly just hold out for an 03 or an 04. Lets see some pics.

just get a 03 and put a kb 2.2 on it and your done. thats the best set up for a killer cobra.

first off, 04SVTDRIVER, there are already mods like I said. I talked to him just now and he said itr has 380 at the wheels...not too bad. The only other mods he has that I didnt mention is he said he swapped out cams...but there is no wopping while it idles so....i dunno...and it has 43k miles and he said once he gets it appraised at the ford dealership, he'll sell it to me for any more than the dealership will give him.

and ask him what cams, because Tim over at MPH gets a sh*t load of power out of his cams, but there is almost no lope

Yeah thats why i wondered about his cams at first....there is no difference b/t his idle and mine... He said he's also getting a 6 spd tranny put it in so...i dunno...if he gives me a good price, I'll jump on it.

380 at the wheels is pretty high for full exhaust and cams even on a 4v, I dunno, Id make him cough up some dyno sheets and some reciepts for the parts.

it def. isnt either of those. I've seen the engine itself and there is nothign special about it. I really doubt the guy has 380 at the wheels, but he claimed an 11.9 which sounds crazy even IF he has 380 rwhp...I'd hafta see the timeslip

Well, I wouldnt say an 11.9 is outta the question with about 315 hp and some great suspension, but Im talking FULL RACE suspension, and beating the hell outta the car to get that time. I dont think Id buy a car from someone who lies so much...just me though

Yeah, he talks a good game...but some stuff doesnt match up so...we'll see if I get a chance to drive it..I may even bring the camera along!!

Nope. Not unless he is jesus. There has to be more to the install than what you said. There has to be boost, spray, forged/cryo-treated internals or any of the combo.
Ive got a buddy with a 98 cobra with 4.30s, full drag suspention and other bolt ons and he runs 12.80s. hes lying somewhere about something...

Yea, now that I think about it, theres no way. LOL make sure he doesnt mean 1/8th mile...:D I dunno, if you buy it, then we wont have an official spider...:(

true that!!!! But i doubt I'll get it just bc he's done so much to it...to me its better to start stock (like I have) and build upward. I'd rather see the progress of more hp than buy something w/ 350+ hp

He runs an 11.9 in a vert? Does it have a full cage?

that is a great ? if he does not have a cage he's lying for sure cause he would not be allowed to go that fast to get that time uh oh someones lying

I agree with madd matt. If its not 03-04 Cobra, i wouldnt even bother. Also, if you did buy it, what would you do with the GT?
