for anyone who knows anything about web design...

I have my own web site that is hosted by my university and I want to have a feature that will let people make comments and display them on the site. Is there anything you all know of that can do that? or do u know of anywhere that could help me? thanks.

wtf shambles. thats not even funny. Ive searched there plenty, but I figured this is just something someone has to know. Either that or I'm searching the wrong terms. I'm trying anything with "user" "form" "comment" "post" and I get nothing like what I want.

Shambles 10-12-2005 12:59 PM

lol I know...it was intentional. I was trying to be an ass :)

Ill be nice now, how are you wanting the comments to be posted. Can you give me an example page of how its setup. I can probably tell you how to do it if I can have an example.

I basically want it to be like...friends view the site, and can type in comments or anything that will be directly posted onto the web site, a la myspace(www.myspace.com/dannyb785). But since I dont care about censoring anything, I dont need any kind of filter or anything. Just a box to type stuff, and then transfer to a "comments section" just so people can give shoutouts or say hi or whatever.

Yeah thats not gonna be fun. I can read through the HTML, and I understand how to do it, but your going to have to know a fair amount of knowledge in Javascript as well as some PHP.

Good luck with that one man.

Edit- You could try a system called e107, which is a mySQL and PHP based system. Its pretty customizable, but your gonna have to teach yourself some mySQL and so forth.

Heres an example of an e107 website:

you dont really have to have a lot of knowledge in php or javascript. just go to google and search for "php script threaded comments" you will find many many free scripts that you can download and install into your site. a lot of them have an autoinstall feature where you dont even have to do the work if you dont know much about php.

I just figured it out today. Basically, I just wanted a guestbook feature. For some reason, the name "guestbook" never popped in my head. I have it now, and even though it looks crappy, it's there.

lol, i agree. but for someone that doesnt have the knowledge it would be impossible for them to make anything like that on their own.

depending on what your doing front page has a deal where you can set up a fourm using that now i know you can do a questionare but i have never looked into doing it the way you mentioned look it up and let me know

www.kavtow.com

no, you cant do any of that kinda stuff in front page. the most you could do is a form, but with a form the fields are filled out and sent to somebodys email address or to a log. he wants the messages to show up on his website for all to read. you could do an include, but again thats using php.

dannyb785 10-19-2005 05:59 PM

as I said, I already added a guestbook and it does pretty much what I want it to, so I'm happy
