Dad wont let me get mustang.

So I'am 17 years old and I'am going to buy a new 2003 Mustang next week and my dad says the car is crap cause its ford. My dads european and drives a Bmw 540 and things Bmw is the ****. I told him I want a mustang and thats it, he said he wont let me wtf. He wants me to pay half for a 2002 golf gti which I dont want. Any ideas on how to make his mind up so i can get a mustang. Mine was to just bring the car home 1 day.
Thanks

Tell him to get you an M6 as a compromise.

i love soccermoms 09-04-2005 06:03 PM

ooor if you still cant have that id settle for an m3, 95 or newer. supercharge it, get some good suspension and tires, and then go have fun at the 1/4 mile, the roadcourse, or the auto x :D

FritoBandito 09-04-2005 06:09 PM

Get the stang. Who will be driving the car, you or your dad. YOU! Get what you want to drive. Show him some of the vids on streetfire.com of stangs rippin it up and he'll change his mind.

Jack The Ripper 09-04-2005 06:23 PM

I'd ask him why it is so important not to get a stang? Hell, if it comes with warranty then his own rediculous prejudices are just stupid.

Tell him to grow up and act his age and quit being stupid about a car purchase, if it is going to be your car it should be something you want, not something he wants. yer better off in a stang than a golf anyways, the maintenance is cheaper, and your insurance will probably be less.

Ask him to come up with a single good reason why the Golf instead of the Stang, and if he startas talking about reliability then buy one from a dealer and you will get a warranty.

jesus... seriously, you dad needs to grow up and let you like what you want to like.

what a dick

Jack The Ripper 09-04-2005 06:25 PM

hell yer dad is probably angry cause some kid in a charged GT or a cobra raped his BMW 6 ways from sunday and doesent want his kid having something faster.

Lances03SVT 09-04-2005 07:01 PM

I've had my 03 GT for 2 years and besides the work done for the mods I have not had it in the shop for anything exept an oil change.

wish i could claim that, at 5k miles my rear main oil seal started leaking. other than that, no prob and that was under warranty

R3BoRn 09-04-2005 07:08 PM

f8ck Bmw guy they need premium gas, and you think insurance is gonna be cheaper on a bmw, and dont get me started on parts my dad had to get a new light bulb for his car $230. Anyway I'am going shoppin for my used mustage tommow f8ck it.

MattJ 09-04-2005 07:17 PM

While the BMW may be of higher build quality, you also pay a VERY HIGH price for any type of part needed for the vehicle, and the labor as well. Ask your dad whos going to pay the price when something small like your tierods or struts go out and it costs 1000 for labor and parts. Mustangs are very cheap to fix because they are pretty common cars. The aftermarket range is one of the biggest around as well.

Although I cant lie, I wouldnt mind an m3, m5 or m6.
:D

Test drive one with him, make him feel it. Ill say nothing more, its something that needs to be felt...

Thats a damn good idea, make sure you let him behind the wheel for a few minuits as well. <grin>

burnsmustang 09-04-2005 09:07 PM

wait

wait are you buying it with your OWN $$ or is he paying for it? cause if hes paying for the majority you really have no leverage, tell him you wana take out a loan and pay for it all yourself, maybe with a little help on insurance which is outrageous

MachGT 09-04-2005 09:35 PM

the mustang is one of the most dependable vehicles in the last few years. I have not had a notable problem in a few years of owning fords.

SpinMedia 09-04-2005 09:40 PM

yeah my dad didn't like my stang either, he drove it and was like "F*ck this plastic P.O.S" and then he left in his acura talking ****. **** it though, and if your gonna get a stang get a GT, dont buy a v6, because TRRUUUSSSSSSTTTTTTTTTT me. you will really really really really really relaly regret buying a 6er if you do. Im not saying they are bad, but then you start reading around the forum and everyone has a GT and you have a v6 and everyone is talkign **** so then you want to go and trade it in.

MattJ 09-05-2005 12:41 AM

my dad loves my gt. I let him drive it once and he was like a kid in a candy store. he loves the acceleration, the handling, everything.

88gtspeedfreek 09-05-2005 01:50 AM

i wish i had problems like that... look, stop being a jelly fish and GROW A BACK BONE!!! if you have the money, isnt it up to you? but on the other hand, chicks with no panties will be more comfortible riding in a bmw.

WaterDR 09-05-2005 04:37 AM

I am gonna go against the grain:

Unless you are out of the house living on your own, paying your own bills then your Dad has every right to let you or not let you buy a car.

I don't care if you have your own money, as long as the umbilical cord is still attached, you are still dependant on your old-man.

my $0.02

madmatt 09-05-2005 07:22 AM

Yes, I meant to ask you that last night. It sounds like HE is buying you the car. If thats the case, I think the pooch is screwed, but if you have the money for it, you can get it, but imo, if hes paying, depending on how much hes givin you to spend, there are some other cars you could go with and still have fun.

TayWolf55 09-05-2005 08:21 AM

After I got the GT my dad started driving it and got used to the 5 speed. 1 month later he was in his cobra after driving suburbans for the last 10 years.

Get what you want, and let him have fun with it. I bet his mind changes.

R3BoRn 09-05-2005 10:07 AM

I got enough money for a stang but my dad will pay half if I get a golf gti

tell him to go with you to go test drive a new 05/06

Lightning247 09-05-2005 01:35 PM

I'm going to have to step in here and say something.

My best friend has owned 2 E36 M3's(An Arctic Silver 97' and currently a Techo Violet 99') both Coupes....and stock for stock the cars are pretty on-par with a 96-98 Cobra...and definitely beats GT's 79-04 without breaking a sweat. Mod for Mod we were even Until I got my 4.10 gears. Before that it was always a driver's race. Moose's M3 seems to be somewhat of a factory freak, b/c i've annihilated most of his Friends m3's...but I believe that's because they aren't properly driven. Moose is an awesome StickMan.

His 97' M3 went 8.90@80mph stock as a clock on street tires...and the 99 is a bit faster. The 99 now has ECIS Intake, AA Exhaust, and Underdrive Pullies. I beat him by roughly 1-2 cars on the Highway...and that's me with O/R Midpipe, Tune, Gears, Catback, Intake, and Pullies

Speed aside, if you drove an M3 you would go home and smack your mustang in the face. The car's prowess and demeanor is completely different. I've driven the Mthrizzle on countless occasionsand the m3 is tight, nimble, agile, aggressive, and just screams to redline. It may not have the torque of a V8, but the car is so "Peppy" for lack of a better word. The car makes you feel so confident, feedback response is impeccable, throttle response is instantaneous...and the SUSPENSION? Is decades ahead of Ford's SN95 platform. The parts are expensive, but It takes $ to play the game, no matter what you drive. As far as the basic Mods go, you can get a Trackpipe (O/R) Pipe, an M50 Manifold (From a 3.0L 95 M3), an Intake, and Catback all for the same prices as you would for a mustang, and go faster given you have the driving ability. Bigger mods require more $$...but the only thing left is Clutch/Flywheel, Throttle Body, MAF, Cams, Headwork, Forced Induction or Nitrous...all of which will be closely priced to Mustang Stuff.
Remember these cars weigh Hundreds of pounds less then a Mustang. And again I can't stress to you enough how much more refined a vehicle it is.

These two cars (even a Cobra) are not in the same catagory. Any recent BMW,especially an M car, is leaps and bouns above their domestic counterparts in almost every category. I'm not hating on the mustang, just trying to open up your eyes a little bit, and try not to let you be so closed minded. If you can afford (through your dad or yourself) to get the Bimmer then I would...but that's just my very educated opinion.

Philip K.

Lightning, your forgeting we are really Comparing a Stang with a Golf GTI, Not a beamer.

Id take a Stang GT over a GTI but i wouldn't take a V6 over a GTI.

Check this out, to me, the stang is best "bang for the buck". Id take the 05 v6 stang over the GTI, but not a 99-04 v6.

I would get an 05-06 V6 way before the GTI.My wifes 06 is damn fun too drive and very quick for a V6.

Lightning247 09-05-2005 05:35 PM

If this kid's Dad is so into BMW's then a Bimmer is exactly what he needs. He can pick up a used E36 for the same price as a GTI, maybe a hair cheaper if he searches around. I was just playing off the fact that his Dad was into the old Bavarian Motor Works...just like my father was psyched about me getting a Cobra b/c of the blue oval.

Any real High Performance car is going to require premium gasoline.

If it were me id ask him to buy me an M3...In the last few days of deciding what kind of car I was going to buy - either a 97-98 M3, or a Stang I would gladly have either, just kind of leaned toward the v8, but I still would drive an m3, so make him get you one!

PureStang 09-05-2005 07:21 PM

but all of the after market parts for BMW's are soo much more expensive....and if u think about it...if u F*** up a part....ur going to have to fork out more money to get the part that u screwed up cause its a foreign part....unlike mustangs.....u screw up a part...its cheap cause its domesic....from the good ole usa.....but thats is also my $0.02...

PureStang 09-05-2005 07:23 PM

or even better....get the M5...its got a v8 in it i think.....n if it is the one im thinking of..it may have 400 or 500 hp....haha....also more expensive..hehe
