FWD? Spoiler? What do i not get here?
 

Just curious....

Spoiler on a RWD vehical makes sence. when yer haulin butt, the airflow hits the spoiler which is designed to push down on the back of your car, when this happens you get more weight on the back which causes better traction and grip right?

so what the hell good would it do on a FWD?? Its the FRONT that is spinnin the wheels, wouldnt that added downpressure on the trunk simply put more weight on the rear of the vehical? basic knowledge of the "Lever" would basically show that the added down force would simply put more weight on the back and the rear wheels would act as a pivot and it would reduce weight to the FRONT of the vehical....

am i missing something here?

I never thought about it much either, but a few min ago i was up at McDonalds getting some McTrash burgers and i saw this honda civic with the standard issue erector-set wing. it just doesent make any sence to me.

Most ricers think illogically. A muffler does nothing for your car. A wing on FWD hurts more than helps. 300lbs of stereo equipment in your car doesnt make you go faster and why do you add performance parts when you add more weight with that like a body kit?

Its one of those unanswered questions.

It's for looks. As much as I hate a riced out car, if it has a body kit, nice rims, and a cool paint job, but no spoiler of some kind, it looks a little strange. Now SOME people have awful taste in what kind of spoiler is appropriate/tasteful and that's where they go wrong.

Correct, I think the right spoiler on an import looks nice. For example, the TRD spoiler on a supra= instant happy pants.

I like wingless supras...like this

Supra's need all the rear downforce they can get.

Here's my take on this.
A spoiler has no air going under it., just over it. Spoiler has a soild wind resistance.

A wing has air going under and over it. So it is made to be adjustable. (like an airplane wing). So it's gonna do more than just add downforce, it can also do away with downforce.

Most wings I see serve no purpose on those primered hondas, et.al. I see all day. But they sure make laugh a hearty laugh. HAHAHAAH. Their fart cannons add more laughs out loud. I love when a ricer looks at me in my stang and tries to be cool. I LAUGH OUT LOUD at the bastids

Not a fan of MY wing on my stang. I really would rather have a spoiler. Like the Cobra has. Just looks better. IMHO. Sorry didn't mean to rant and rave.

whether the car is fwd or rwd you still need downforce on the rear. The back end on fwd will still pop its butt in the air, so yes a wind on any car will help

Yes most ricers think illogically. Wings on the street are for looks. there are very few of us who actually take corners at 120+ mph. when you are going that fast around a corner and something happens that messes up your line, and you have have steer different and the back end starts to lift, well that makes my heart stop beating for a couple seconds. down force is good. wings sold for street cars are rarely functional. if they are, people wouldnt use them right anways. you should also have downforce in the front of the vehicle too. downforce is mainly for cornering, and doesnt do much for traction with the kind of power most people on here are seeing. Indy cars and some ferraris produce more pounds of thrust for downforce than the car weighs, so theroeticaly they could drive upside down at certain speeds.
at 90 mph a Ferrari F50 produces more downforce than what it weighs.

Also, how can a muffler do nothing for the car? your telling me the stock muffler has absolutely no flow difference than a straight through "fart can"? you are wrong. My friend has a civic that put down 15 more wheel horespower with an intake and exhaust. which is a lot in those little cars. i would still rather have my stang, but there are people out there who have better taste then the kids that have show cars. i used to be into stereo and now i have nothing just for performance sake. it sucks not having a good radio but thats what you have to do sometimes.

Spoliers on FWD can be a benefit but only if the speeds you are traveling require it. We all know that for spoilers to have any benefit you must be traveling at a pretty good clip. Now at high speeds, downforce can be crucial on a FWD car for the same reason that we have chin spoilers and rear spoilers. You need air over that wing to press it to the ground. Now with that said here's how I really feel about it.........If a guy wants to add 100 lbs of body weight with spoilers and body kits to his FWD, I say let em...It's only going to be that much more embarassing as I beat their A$$ down the road. But this is America, gotta love freedom of expression! :)

That spoiler actually is about the same height as the stock spoiler on that car, maybe even shorter. That pic makes it look ginormous.

The spoiler can also be used to hang it in on a hook in the garage when you're done playing with it. ;)
