Headphones While Driving, What's Up With That?
 

I have started to see more and more people wearing headphones while driving. I can only assume they are for listening to music or talking on the phone. How can anyone consider this a safe practice? Personally, I feel that I cannot drive with enough awareness of other drivers if I have the radio too loud or cannot hear what is going on around me. While driving the Mustang, I hardly ever have the radio audible and usually have the window cracked to hear the outside better. I can hear cars coming up behind or beside me and have that little extra notice that something is there if perhaps I don't see them in the mirrors or turn to look. I use all my senses to drive. You can smell if the car is performing right, burning too much fuel, burning rubber, ect. Feel is needed through you ass feet and hands to know how the car is reacting. Obviously sight and also why not hearing. What if there is an emergency vehicle? Often you can't see them until they pass you or through an intersection. I even saw a guy on a motorcycle put in some headphone right before going for a ride. I doubt many of you guys do this since we all want to hear the exhaust, just thought I get some opinion on the matter.

I can not stand people who wear headphones while driving. It has to be for music, cause everyone has bluetooths now. I just never understood it. Who knows.

Well, I have a V6 so the last thing I want to hear is my exhaust. :p

As for the headphones while driving issue. My wife and I were just talking about how annoying it is. We are seeing it more and more these days. It is against the law here but it doesn't seem to deter people.

I'm noticing it more too...weird. I do wear headphones when riding though..couldn't hear a tank behind you with helmet/road noise/exhaust, so might as well. plus music makes riding awweeessome :)

the only thing I can think of besides music would be they are listening to those audio story books they may have downloaded in mp3 format... other than that I have no idea ?

But yeah I agree with the exhaust note, we are gear heads... we must unite!

why wear headphones when you have your radio in your car?

I think a lot of the people wearing headphones are using it for hands free calling. Most of the time I can tell it's an iPhone cause they are using the shitty white earphones apple gives you which have a microphone on them. I can't see why someone would listen to music with them while in their car. Plus here it's illegal to have to headphones in both ears while driving.

yes we do have a lot of nonsense laws, but I'm quite fine with not being able to drive with headphones in both ears. I would like the person cutting me off or about to swerve into me to be able to hear me lay into the horn. But no, it's not illegal to drive yet.

This drives me insane because 90% of the time the person is not even looking at the road. I have seen people not pull over for emergency vehicles for a good amount of time and passed them later just to see headphones in (granted most people wouldnt pay attention anyways) and have been almost hit in a 4 lane by a person with a rather large pair on

The only thing that drives me crazy more is the little old lady with a dog on her lap that sits taller than she does
