Default Droid X

Finally time for me to upgrade from my Voyager! I just ordered the Droid X no more than 20 mins ago. I've been doing a lot of research on it and I'm pumped to get it next week. This will be my first Android phone, so tell me what to expect? I know there's a ton of Apple haters on here...lol

I'm about to make the switch over to vzw from tmo. I just sold my nexus one on saturday so I need to ship it out this week. I'll also be getting the X.

Android is a powerful platform. It does everything (and more) that Apple can do. You'll be happy with it, I've been an Android user since day 1, no regrets.

HTC Hero user here. Droid rocks but it loses out to the iPhone 4 in 2 respects (in my book) the screen rotation is less than natural feeling and only has 2 orientations. The iPhone (especially the 4) has 4 orientations and is very natural. I'm hoping this is addressed in future versions of the Andriod OS. Secondly, the iPhone 4 has a way way way way better screen than any driod phone I've seen so far, don't know about the X. The earlier iPhone screens are identical to my Hero.

The market is fast and there's tons of apps for free. Some are just plain free, others are ad supported. I don't have any paid apps and I'm really pretty happy with the ones I do have. Every time I find a need there's an app so it's pretty well supported. Do MAKE SURE to read the comments about the app before you install it. There have been a few password loggers and other spyware that made it onto the market. It seems a little better lately but a couple months ago there was a big spate of it.

The only thing I didnt like about it is its size...The Droid X is HUGE and not pocket friendly. I hope you went to a store to appreciate how large a 4.3" screen is. Other then that I liked everything else about the phone. The phone is really fast and is supposed to be even faster once FROYO is released. I'm just going to hold out for Droid 2, which is supposed to hit verizon shelves August 23.

I believe mine will be in on the 3rd. Yeah I was at the mall yesterday and saw them on display. I saw a lot of complaints about it being too big, but I think it's fine. Although I may be biased because I used to carry around my PSP in my pocket, and that's HUGE lol.

I saw all the rumors and supposed leaks on the Droid 2. I wasn't really impressed from them. I would've loved to wait just a bit longer to see what it is for real, but my phone just wouldn't make it that long.

It was a big toss up when i went to order my new phone this week to upgrade from the iphone 3gs because my gf wants it. Then the whole debate between droid over iphone and what not but i'm not all that big into all the apps and ****. I know droids are great phones but I just stuck to what I know and just when with the iphone 4. All i care is that i can surf the web and watch movies witht he high res screen lol.

Through my research of the different articles for the possible release of the Droid 2. I see that MOTO keeps pushing the date back for DX shipments because of the screen glitch. Hope you guys get your phones soon and word on the street is FROYO (android 2.2) for the DX is being released next friday.

The D2 will most likely be a flop because it doesnt have HDMI port, HD video capability, video chat and its in the same skin as a D1. It does have minor changes to the body but thats like polishing a turd but anothers opinion could be, why fix something thats not broken. I need a new phone now anyway the screen on my craptastic LG env touch cracked and the inside is completely toast. I hope pricing will reflect what this new Droid 2 brings to the table when you compare it to the other smart phones on the market.

I will have to make a decision once pre-orders are available. I will either go HTC or MOTO...not sure yet.

My biggest gripe about the droid x is all the preinstalled apps that you can't remove unless you root the device. Motorola forces their interface on you and won't let you put any of the other android ones on.

I hate motorola, that's my only problem. HTC is the true performance company when it comes to phones, and its been tested time and time again.

Like above, motorola pretty much makes you have all of their software installed. Yes you can remove the apps of the page, but they're still installed and still try to run in the background...

The Droid X is nice, but its just that its a moto phone..

really it doesnt matter as you can root the X now and completely uninstall those apps. I did it and ran alot better. But I reinstalled them so I can get the 2.2 update next month. After that I will re-root and get rid of the crap again.

there are already roots to get around the motoblur without locking the device?

I'm not into that kind of stuff but thats the majority of the complaints I read about the moto smart phones.

most device manufacturers put their own spin on the Android software and force you to run with it. the only device that will get you plain Android is the Nexus One.

The argument that motorola is a bad company/manufacturer because they force you to keep apps/motoblur is moot because HTC does the same thing with the Evo 4g.

My phone has absolutely no apps that they force you to use.

I have no HTC apps on my phone and it's never been rooted.

Yeah I've heard that everyone hates motoblur. And, I myself have never liked a motorala phone, I always thought they were cheap pieces of ****. But from all the video reviews I've seen, this thing out performs even the Evo, and apparantly they changed motoblur A LOT and it's actually really nice.

But on a personal note, what pushed me most to get it was the fact that 3G is coming to an end, and is at its prime right now, so I know I'll be getting the best 3G phone out there. 4G is too new and you cant really get it everywhere I've heard? (someone with an evo confirm?) That, and Verizon hasn't launched their 4G phones yet.

3.9G aka '4G' wont be out for at least another 2 years. How long do you think you would want to keep any phone you buy right now?

I could be wrong, but im 90% sure that the Evo has a NASCAR app that can't be uninstalled without rooting.

Verizon will be pushing out their 4G service by the end of this year, but of course only to certain cities for now. I bet late next year is when you'll start seeing it in more places. I think it'll be here sooner than 2 years.

yep, LTE sim cards have already been spotted in the wild. Devices (probably hotspot devices/modems) will likely be out before the end of the year. I doubt we'll see phones until first quarter or later of 2011.

this is why I just signed a 1 year contract with Verizon. LTE (VZW's "4G" network) will be live in 2011 and there should be some killer Android devices come this time next year.

4G is a joke in my opinion. With good 3G signal my phone can load a 3min high quality youtube video in 10-20 secs. Thats fine by me.

Also, like stated already, 4G is only really starting out in big inner cities and then will spread from there. But I doubt it'll be within a year before you can really get 4G everywhere you want to go.

Here in KC, you have to literally be walking through downtown to get it. At work (20-30mins from downtown) its a no go.

I say buy what you like (don't bother with 3G/4G), and then in two years it'll be way obsolete anyways.

By that time Google will own Wal-Mart (and all of China, since they banned them), and Panasonic will be making 3D-everything.

did you get your shipment notice yesterday? I ordered mine earlier this week over the phone (Tuesday afternoon I think) and it's getting delivered today.

No I ordered it online. Yay for discounts lol. I went to the mall and played around with EVERY smart phone out there. I fell in love with the X and felt it wasn't worse than the others in any way. The top things I loved most were the camera, HD video, SOUND QUALITY, and Swype texting(yes, it really works surprisingly well. I never missed a word and it was fast as ****).

I just couldnt get over how after I recorded a short video in the middle of the mall, I could hear EVERYTHING crystal clear. Literally everything. And I could hear all this clarity even over the loud mall noise. Those 3 mics really help.

The only thing that the phone needs to be perfect, is a front facing camera. Other than that, it's full of win.
