Default Could have been bad....really bad!

So last Wednesday I noticed a strong gas smell in my garage. I worked in the yard that day so I thought it was just the weed eater or something. Next morning I can smell it in the laundry room as I am getting ready to leave for work. Still just assume it was something other than the car.

My fiance's car was in there too and her check engine light came on..she had it looked at and her cat needs to be replaced soon so at that point I thought it was possibly her car. We go out Saturday night in the Mustang and the smell of raw gas is so strong inside we have to roll the windows down.

I drop it off Monday to get looked at. They had it for 7 hours and found no signs of fuel leaking out. He said he did a fuel pressure test, smoke test, no codes, etc. The tank was slam full so he told me everything was bone dry and to keep driving it and bring it back next Monday with a nearly empty tank. I walk in the garage this morning and couldn't take it anymore so I dropped it off at a tune shop on the way to work.

They find the problem in 10 min. I walk outside and he showed me the wet hose that had gas dripping on it. So the back hose that connects the fuel rails had somehow touched something hot and got a hole in it. Raw fuel has been leaking onto my exhaust manifold for damn near a week! The guy told me how very very fortunate I am that the car had not already caught on fire.

I mean what the hell...why did the other place not find this? I have to replace the entire fuel rail which will be there tomorrow. I am very very very thankful and very lucky.

I had something like that happen on my 74 Charger years ago and it almost burnt to the ground.

My 1st car ( 69 GTO) popped a hose loose to the carb and was leaking all over the manifolds and everything else. I got back it on and went on my way. No fire but gadaam gas was bubbling. Luckily for me no spark ever touched the gas.. A week later my friends car had a similar carb leak. ( Rochester Quadrajet). He had a GT-37 and the gas leaked all the way down his tranny and soaked the shifter boot. MFer burnt to the ground. Rochester's were notorious for gas leakages...
