Detailing Business
 

Well ive been thinkin about it more and more, and was thinking about starting a small detailing business. Nothing major, just something to earn some cash. I know a few of you guys have done so, and was looking for your opinion. Should i do it? Any recomendations? I know the basics of what id need, my main challenge would be getting people to come out and let me work on their vehicles. :all: Any info appreciated.

Really just all depends on how serious you want to be about it... There have been several people on the forums that have made a good living doing it and others that tried and failed/got tired of it..

I honestly think the only way you can really make any money with it would be to have a mobile setup, truck + trailer, water tank, generator, sprayer, etc. but you're talking about quite a bit of money to do that. If you're good enough, the clients will come to you, otherwise it's just really the luck of the draw.

I have a trailer but no where to do it besides my house. I have a pressure washer, generator, air tank and compressor. The only thing i dont have is a water tank. My main problem was, even if i did it out of my house, it would be hell. I live 15min outside of the nearest town. I think that would be my main challenge actually, is trying to get to people, or have them get to me. I obviously cant wax vehicles outside, or atleast shouldnt.

I did it on the side when I was in HS. Started with a few people I knew that wanted their car in top shape to sell it (even if it wasn't the nicest car). They liked my work and had me do their vehicles and referred me to people they knew. I was mobile, all i said to the people was I needed a place that had shade and a hose and I would do my work. I made a decent amount on the side but the customer base wasnt big enough in my area of small town Minnesota to make it a full time deal.

I say give it a shot, doesn't hurt to try.

I know guys that take the cars to brushless, laser car washes and then detail them afterwards. Or the people take it through a car wash and then the guy details it and includes the carwash in his pricing.

You'd have to be pretty serious about it to make some decent cash.

Ya you have to be mobile and busy to make any cash.

I make good money doing it, but I'm limited because I haven't got the right kind of vehicle nor equipment to work at business places, can only go to residences/places with a spigot.

Agreed, i would have to have a place with a spigot and/or shade. I could do it out of my house, but again, 15min outa town.

Doing it at your house probably wouldn't work unless the customer lives in your neighborhood. You don't want them sitting at your house while you're working..lol
