PA gun laws

I know alot of you out there are familiar with firearm laws and whatnot.

I'm 19 years old and live in PA. Am I able to get a handgun?

Some people have told me yes, some people have told me that in PA you have to wait till 21 for handguns.

I bet it wouldn't be too hard to find out by google. Those type of gun laws are some of the easist to find. Heck, I bet you could go to a store that sells guns and ask, pawn shop and such. Here you have to be 21 to buy a handgun, you can buy rifles, shotguns at a younger age though.

^^ agreed and in South Carolina it is also 21 but you are allowed to have a handgun just not able to buy it or carry it.

In michigan you have to be 21 to buy from a dealer but if you buy a used gun from a family member/friend or the gun is given to you as a gift (you pay someone in the family to buy it for you) it is legal to own a hand gun if you are 18.

no, in PA you need to be 21 to buy a hand gun. for shotguns you need to be 18.

It's generally federal law IIRC but yes, handguns are 21+, long guns like shotguns and rifles are 18+. Most states also have rules about <21 buying ammo that "could" be used in a handgun, so watch the .22's and such.

Federal firearms laws regarding possession are MUCH more forgiving. You have to be with an adult and have your guardians permission if <18 to hold a handgun but other than that, as long as a legal posessor is present you're good to go pistol shooting. You can be any age where you can get a hunting license in your state to possess a long gun so long as you're not breaking any other ordinances.
