Floor Jack Set
 

Does anyone know of a decent kit, thats not overkill price wise. But not weak to the point my car will fall on my head. I have a set of rhino ramps, but i dont have a jack or a set of stands

its about time to get a pair...

I've got this 4000 lb aluminum jack and these 3 ton steel stands. I did a bit of research before buying this jack and found a million bad reviews on Sears jacks. Mostly accounts of the seals blowing out on the Sears parts and they only have a one year waranty. I also bought the 3000 lb aluminum jack from
Harbor frieight but I only used it for one day and took it back. It didn't feel strong enough for me. The 4000 lb version is very different and has twin pumps. It's been a great jack for about a year and a half or more now. Being aluminum it's really light, 40 lbs or so, and good for carrying to autocross or open track events.

If you just need something to change tires out with, what you listed would do fine. I've got an old AC Delco 2 ton steel jack that I have used for nearly a decade, but it doesn't fit under the current car.

First off, please don't do work under a vehicle while it is just up on a floor jack! Jackstands were made for a reason, and are the safest way to securely keep a vehicle in the air. Honestly, one jack is as good as another at comparable price points. I would look for a race-style, low-slung, quick-lift jack. Most of the parts stores sell one, usually with some kind of warranty. Also look at Harbor Freights stuff, its usually pretty good. I've been using a jack and stands set that I bought from Advanced almost 10 years ago, and the seal just started leaking on it. I think it cost me $30 new. While your at it, spend the $20 on a set or two of jackstands.

Yikes. Harbor Freight? I wouldn't trust that garbage.


I have a Kobalt one from Lowes. I like it. I have Kobalt Jackstands too. Its like 80 dollars for the floor jack and jackstands.

Sorry I thought i made it clear that i wanted jack stands and a floor jack, i would never get under a car just held up by the jack thats just dumb, id just be asking for something to kill me lol

In a recent issue of Grassroots Motorsports magazine they tested the $16 torque wrench from Harbor Freight against a $250 Snap-on torque wrench. The Harbor Freight wrench was considerably more acurate than the Snap-on wrench. They did state however, that the Snap-on wrench could be re-tuned for around $30, and it would again be acurate. But shit. You could buy two Harbor Freight torque wrenches for that much, and how long would the Snap-on wrench stay accurate.

So that is hard evidence that atleast one item from Harbor Freight is not garbage, and I would vouch for my jack and stands that they are not garbage either. If you've never been to a Harbor Frieght store or used some products they sale, you'd probably be suprised at the quality for the price. Somethings may be crap, but that when good judgement has to be made. Sears can make just as good crap.

6 ton for another $10????

another 3 tons, seems silly not to spend the extra 10 and hold another 3 ton for heavens sake

Just dont buy the smaller 3000 LB floor jack from harbor freight. Those have bled down on me before and would bleed down so fast I couldnt shove a jack stand under the car.

Harbor Freight is good for one time use tools. Shit you rarely use, or will only use once. Its beyond cheap.


I have broken so many tools from Harbor Freight, and i'm not rough with them. They are cheap for a reason.

My $13 timing light is great from them. Cheap and gets the job done.

Do some searching on aluminum floor jacks. There are a few places that have nices one cheap that are really good. Hell even www.jegs.com has a good deal on their name brand jack. Its nice and light and cheaper too.

I have a Crapmen jack and it has been terrible. Since I dont have to carry the jack anywhere and my car is lowered I got the steel low profile jack from Costco. It feels real stable and fits under with no issues. It goes for 89 or 99 but no jack stands.
