More proof of Global Warming (lol)

It is currently MINUS 17 heading to MINUS 20. Can someone please send us some Global Warming?

08mustang_gt 01-02-2010 09:23 PM

Yea exactly, and Missouri just broke it's record off the coldest average temperature AND the most snowfall in 100 years.

WTF Al Gore? Texas getting tons of snow, other places hitting record temps, I'm starting to believe this is another Y2K hoax.

WaterDR 01-02-2010 09:37 PM

Don't you get it....the Libs now call it Global Climate Change and they now blame ANY weather change on Mankind.

rebelyell 01-02-2010 11:39 PM

Weather is all mother natures doing, without much human influence. Cycles are gonna occur no matter what. Problem is these cycles are more than just a few years apart. We are on the upswing of a warming cycle, and it will last well beyond any of our life times, The next cooling cycle will begin in a few million years, There will probably no current species alive then, But they will probably be repalced with many others, maybe even an intellegent one. As for right now. Al Gore is just pissed off cause we didn't elect Man Bear Pig in 2000. And we in the southeast are about to get a cold blast not seen since 1977. Global warming? Not. Weather cycle? yes. Nature will run it's course, and not alot we can do about it. Bad or good..

krenogin 01-02-2010 11:41 PM

exactly,, warming is a hoax..

King 01-03-2010 12:29 AM

Not necessarily. Not to play devils advocate here, but in all honesty colder temperatures can act as proof of Global warming. Sounds stupid, I know, but warmer summers mean colder winters. Call me crazy, but that's a fact. It's like the equilibrium of weather or something like that - it must balance itself out. Then again, I do live next to the hippie capitol of Colorado...so maybe some of that tree-hugger mindset has rubbed off on me. But here in Colorado it was a hot summer, like way hot (not the hottest by any means, but it was pretty hot). And now we've experienced a rougher winter than the last couple years. And the last time we had a BAD winter (2006/2007 Blizzard = somewhere in the neighborhood of 5ft+ of snow) we had a really hot summer...like mid/high-90s low 100s. So call me a crazy tree-hugger-wannabe or whatever but I believe that this is how it works.

Come on Nick, really? Global warming has been proven false time and time again. No more kool-aid for you.

It's been proven false that global warming is accelerating weather as fast as Al Gore has said, but it has not been proven that it does not exist. It's a fact that what chemicals come out of exhausts, and certain plants (like factory plant, not the green junk) hurt the environment. I doubt it has very much to do with the extreme weather the nation has seen this year, but it's possible.

zigzagg321 01-03-2010 12:59 PM

Globa warming is bullshit. If you honestly buy into their mumbo-jumbo I feel bad for you Nick. Not being a dick, but that's the truth.

Have you not seen anything about the "leaked" emails showing the supposed proof that "Global warming" is still happening? If you haven't heard anythign about that, then you should consider looking into it.... Then check back and let me know what you think.

JackThe Ripper 01-03-2010 01:45 PM

Damn Nick, you should know better than to air out your liberal colorado nonsence to this backwards group of NRA drones.

Lol

Fuck ice caps, who needs them? oh yah, the whole newfangled north atlantic drift. Boy why is that important.

The problem with global warming is that the name is completly inaccurate, it is the warming of the sea and the melting of the ice caps which will introduce massive amounts of fresh water into the ocean and kill a fuck ton of shit.

anyone who doesent think that releasing all the carbon on earth into the atmosphere wont have any side affects is a fucking idiot and needs to pull thier head out of thier ass.

As for the severity of the change, that has yet to be maintained, because the goddamn liberals fucked everything up by trying to profit off of this and creating the whole carbon credit thing. They diddnt stop anything, they just found a way to line thier pockets.

Now the "Green" liberal opportunists discredited what still has the (READ THIS NEXT WORD) -potential- to proper fuck earth and the mindless republican zombies are jumping on this like flies on shit. Now there is so much goddamn misinformation, bullshit, lies, and money grubbing nobody can decipher the truth.

in the end, we all lose out, because once again the Left wing and Right wing of the american plane are so full of shit that the goddamn thing can barely fly

My job is based around eliminating 30% of Colorado's harmful emissions that hurt the atmosphere, so I must know nothing about it right? haha.

Nick.. Seriously.. Come on man.. You work at a vehicle emissions testing station, right?. Not exactly ground-breaking or scientific research happening there. Hell, slip the guy a $20 and that's an insta-pass here..

How much harmful emissions are really and truly emitted from every-day street vehicles? I mean, catalytic converters are becoming more and more efficient every day, auto makers are producing vehicles that produce less harmful emissions and get better fuel mileage than ever before. I'll never profess to know it all, but IMHO global warming is a hoax meant to cost consumers more money and make the powerful corporations (and lawmakers) more of it.

JackThe Ripper 01-03-2010 05:31 PM

Evan, do you live anywhere near a large city? have you seen a skyline after rush hour? all that smog has to go somewhere..

The answer for 2007 is 136 million cars, 110 million trucks, about 1 million buses for a total of 247 million registered vehicles.
thats 247,000,000 vehicles in just america alone.

If you sit in a closed garage with a running car for an hour you will probably be dead. You cant tell me that 247 million cars pumping out poisonous fumes isnt harming anything.

plus, that is just in america. they estimate over 700,000,000 in the entire world. then you start putting all the factories and airlines and shit, thats a lot of things putting out poison gases.

im not saying it is the only cause of any climate changes, but it is insane to think that this has no affect on the world.

Well, I live about 20 minutes north of Nashville. I should think that would count.

I don't honestly know what would affect the climate, but it seems to me that if something was being put in-between the sun and the earth that the climate would tend to get cooler, not warmer. Do you believe that less than transparent gases actually magnify the suns rays? That is what the government scientists have said.

WaterDR 01-03-2010 06:38 PM

Wow...great conversation! I am actually pretty aligned with Jack on this issue especially his comments from his first post. This is an issue that has gone political and it should never have in the first place.

This is the way I see it:

1 - The Earth is getting warmer and the polar ice is melting. This is a proven fact and to believe differently is moronic.

2 - Man has been here for thousands of years and we have no doubt had an impact on this planet. the Earth is different today WITH US then it would have been without us. BUT, the Earth is also dynamic and would have changed on it's own (and does) regardless of how many Mustangs are on the road. We are likely having less of an impact then the Liberals would like us to believe, and more then the Conservatives are saying. Either way, we should protect Mother Earth.

3 - During the Industrial Revolution, Earth temps got colder and not warmer....interesting.

4 - The temps on Mars are increasing at exactly the same rate that they are on Earth. So, we are either polluting Mars somehow, or the Earth would be changing any way.

5 - The exact net effect of Man is only a guess. Who knows, maybe w/o us, the Earth would be in worse shape.

6 - We will likely make things worse trying to make things better, because people climb on band wagons and do popular things rather then doing smart things. There are dozens of examples of this such as palm oil. Palm oil was once seen as a renewable oil and was considered GREEN. It was once believed that Palm Oil could be used to replace regular oil. So, they started tearing down rain forests to build palm trees until word got out about the palm tree farms.

7 - (This comment goes against my conservative idealologies) Cap and Trade will likely have a huge impact on reducing carbon emissions. While I think the legislation is bogus and moronic and will do nothing to impact global temps, I work with numerous large manufacturing corporations and they are all looking to reduce their carbon footprint because of these new laws and the threats of others. Right or wrong, Cap and Trade will have positive results.

8 - We waste too much shit in this country!

9 - WE NEED TO HOLD ALL OF OUR IMPORTS TO SAME EXACT RULES THAT WE REQUIRE OF COMPANIES IN THE USA WHEN IT COMES TO ENVIRONMENTAL CONSTRAINTS. The Earth is the Earth.

once again, this is the problem with the name of global warming, it does not mean everything is heating up, it was a stupid name and is extremly misleading.

So now they seem to want to call it global climate change, and that has the repubs up in arms because they claim it is flipflopping the story.

both the libs and the conservatives are so full of shit and blind to this because all they are interested in is political plays, discrediting the other side, and money.

so forget the term global warming, it was a bad name to begin with.

The atmosphere and the way it works with the planet is extremly difficult to predict with any accurracy, all they can do is look at trends over the past thousands of years with ice cores and stuff to determine how the atmosphere HAS been behaving. All this oil and coal which is converted into carbon was safely stored within the earth and all was well. pulling all of this out makes it difficult for the heat to dissipate back into space, the result is a warming of the oceans, wild climatic anomolies of extremes (mild or extreme seasons). The problem with looking at the fact it is cold as fuck today is that these anomolies we percieve happen on a daily basis, but you have to look at the over all long term trends. in the long run if the north atlantic current seizes we could look at another snowball earth happening very rapidly. And all the north atlantic current really needs is the ice caps to melt and it could stop. Now, thats geologicaly rapidly, not "the day after tomorrow" crap but over the course of a couple hundred years or longer

now done quote me on any of this stuff technically, i dont claim to be an expert, ive just seen plenty of shows on this and that is the basic gist of it, which has all but been forgotten in the bickering between the pubs and dems.

observations from the IPCC include: Natural Changes in Climate

It can take the Earth thousands of years to warm up or cool down just 1 degree when it happens naturally. In addition to recurring ice-age cycles, the Earth's climate can change due to volcanic activity, differences in plant life, changes in the amount of radiation from the sun, and natural changes in the chemistry of the atmosphere.
  • Of the last 12 years, 11 have ranked among the warmest years since 1850.
  • The warming trend of the last 50 years is nearly double that of the last 100 years, meaning that the rate of warming is increasing.
  • The ocean's temperature has increased at least to depths of 3,000 meters (over 9,800 feet); the ocean absorbs more than 80 percent of all heat added to the climate system.
  • Glaciers and snow cover have decreased in regions both in the Northern and Southern hemispheres, which has contributed to the rise of sea levels.
  • Average Arctic temperatures increased by nearly twice the global average rate over the last 100 years (the IPCC also noted that Arctic temperatures have are highly variable from decade to decade).
  • The area covered by frozen ground in the Arctic has decreased by approximately 7 percent since 1900, with seasonal decreases of up to 15 percent.
  • Precipitation has increased in eastern regions of the Americas, northern Europe and parts of Asia; other regions such as the Mediterranean and southern Africa have experienced drying trends.
  • Westerly winds have been growing stronger.
  • Droughts are more intense, have lasted longer and covered larger areas than in the past.
  • There have been significant changes in extreme temperatures -- hot days and heat waves have become more frequent while cold days and nights have become less frequent.
  • While scientists have not observed an increase in the number of tropical storms, they have observed an increase in the intensity of such storms in the Atlantic correlated with a rise in ocean surface temperatures.

This is happening, there is no doubt about it, the question is weather or not we are the cause of it, with all the toxic emissions being burped up into the air from the factories, airlines, 700million cars, coal refineries, and such, it is hard to ignore this coincidence of the change on the enviornment and the massive increase in pollution.

the biggest problem is the Liberals were on a good route but got blindsided b greed, the conservatives took that opportinity to point out the liberals were money grubing, and the whole thing became a huge shitpile of false information, accousations, and corruption.

the one thing that canot not be denied is that global climate change is occurring on an unpresedented scale. look at the data from the last several hundred years.

the big question is ARE WE DOING THIS?

now the answer is almost impossible to determine. so much false information, lies, manipulation of data has occurred for the liberals big payday and the conservatives seizing the moment for political gains. Both sides are to blame on the clusterfuck of bad information.

all i know is this, how can we possibly risk destroying this planet IF we are the cause? Better safe than sorry.

where the fuck do we go if we destroy this planet? all our kids will be dead, the human species will likely be gone, and for what reason?

i dont see it is a risk we can take.

hopefully the left and right diddnt both doom us all to extinction in the next few hundred years because of money and political greed.

i dont plan to be a big greenie, as an individual about all you can do is buy energy star compliant products, switch to effecient light bulbs, and hope that solar and wind technologies will someday actually be affordable for the average person. unfortunatly if nobody is beinging the stuff we need to the3 table, we are just somewhat screwed any way you look at it.

Damn y'all have a lot of time on your hands. Sheesh.

01FR500 01-04-2010 09:27 AM

I start by saying I didn't read a lot of the longer posts above.

We are in the middle of a mass extinction recovery. The effects of extinctions are felt for millions of years. The earth has heated up and cooled down many times throughout it's history. We may be accelerating it, so I think we should try to do more to limit our pollution. Even if humans wern't here, the earth would still be in a heating or cooling cycle.

Fawk, EDIT: The whole reason I came into this thread and forgot about it. It's damn cold outside and I have to change my oil. I seriously hate the cold. I can take 110+ degree weather fine, but if shit drops below 60 I don't want to go outside to do crap.

drag_racer33 01-04-2010 11:21 AM

Just adding an interesting little bit... look up the sun's activity in the last few years (measured in sun spots, more spots= more activity). According to NASA no sunspots were viewed in 266 days in 2008, less in 2009. The sun is stuck on the bottom of its 11 year cycle so we should actually be getting a little colder, not warmer.

GDP 01-04-2010 11:22 AM

I am the complete opposite. I HATE the heat. For those of you that love the heat, move to kuwait and enjoy the 130 degree summers.
