My dog has severe noise anxiety any advice. New pic post 13.

Ok I have a 4 year old pit mix that I rescued about two years ago. He has severe noise anxiety. It is mostly only an issue when there are storms. I live on the second floor of an appartment complex and if the neighbors above us are loud that freaks him out too, just not nearly as bad. When there is a storm, even a mild storm, he tucks tail, pants heavily, paces, and whines. If it happens at night he will jump into bed with me and my GF. Anybody successfully dealt with this in their pets let me know what worked for you. And yes it is funny I just feel bad for the poor guy.

cool dawg mane. the last pic gives me that warm fuzzy feeling inside, then again its lunch time. You must have spoiled the shit out of him. Throw his mangy ass outside everynow and then so he can get used to diff shit:breakdancesmilie:

LOL he is spoiled. Its not easy to throw him out in it because of the appartment complex. The weird thing is when I take him out to do his business he is fine with it.

try throwing a blanket over him when he gets scared, its works for birds :D maybe youll get lucky and he will fall asleep during the storm. idk but if i had a dog inside and he crawling in bed between my and the lady something would have to be done quickly fo sho

That last pic is so cute! I don't know what would help him, though.

Some dogs just have anxiety and there are meds for it. My wifes old dog had anxiety and they him on meds. One of our dogs has some anxiety, but not really with noises. She does hate the vaccuum though and runs and hids behind the couch.

Our oldest beagle (only beagle now), I have seen actually jump at seeing it's own shadow. She will run under the back porch when it rains or thunders. But since it's an outside dog only, she pretty much has to deal with it.

screw medications. i hate how they have a drug for everything, but it causes oh so many side effects that are worse than what you are taking the med for.

i have a 3 yr old boy pitbull terrier he does the same thing after ike he does not like to be outside when there is a storm so i just put him in the garage.

two of my dogs do the same thing. the fireworks right now are driving them nuts. the little one is hiding under beds/chairs and the bigger one is running all over the house trying to hide. the other large dog is running around barking.

total circus right now, lol.

Jeff Foxworthy had a funny skit about that a while back. The sad thing is your right. Like the antidepressants with the side affect of suicidal thoughts :o

If I had a garage that is probably where I'd put him.

Ceasar Milano, aka, The dog whisperer had a case on one of his episodes dealing with a dog who was scared of any sudden noise. It too was a rescue dog, so something spooked him before rescue. He just made the dog get used to different noises using his Ceasar thing he does and it worked. It just takes a little time and you have to be the calm/ assertive pack leader. If your calm then your dog will follow your lead.

Some of his things work great with my beagle at getting rid of unwanted behavior. You just have to be assertive. As long as there isn't a rabbit scent around my dog does what I say.. ;)
