Another man died today

*Edit*, the date of his death was June 17, not today, but reinforces my point that you won't hear about it in the news.

He wasn't a pop star, or celebrity.

One of the men portrayed in "Band of Brothers," Darrell "Shifty" Powders, of Easy Company, 2nd Battalion 506th PIR, 101st Airborne passed away at 86 years old.

In the second-to-last episode of "Band of Brothers," an HBO miniseries that documented Easy Company's wartime exploits, Powers spoke on camera about the soldiers he fought and also hinted at the intrinsic tragedy of combat.

"We might have had a lot in common. He might've liked to fish, you know, he might've liked to hunt," Powers said. "Of course, they were doing what they were supposed to do, and I was doing what I was supposed to do.

"But under different circumstances, we might have been good friends."

This is almost surreal, I just watched through the entire mini series yesterday with a friend who had never seen it, I can't believe this man is gone, he was so lively in his interviews throughout the series. People like him mean much much more to me than any celebrity, you probably won't hear of his death in the news, or see tributes to his life how he impacted the world, seeing as he's no pop star or actor. Another man from what was probably the greatest generation of men and women our country had has passed away, the rest of them won't be with us for much longer. I would loved to have met Shifty, and exchanged a few words with him.

Rest in peace.

Band of Brothers is in the top five of my favorite movies to watch. I go to church with a WWII vet that was in the 101st and droped on D-day, dude could probably kick my ass even at nearly 90 years old.

That one hit me kinda hard when I saw it. Shifty is an icon in the sniping world and one of the last of the real tough guys.

It's truly sad that our veteran heros go unnoticed. :Salutes:
