The I hate when people pronounce words wrong thread

The lady who sits next to me at work talks alot and it annoys me cause she bitches about everything and today she has aggravated two of my pet peeves 1. people who bitch alot and 2. people who can't pronounce words properly. Today she was talking about how she is part eye-talian. WTF if you're part Italian you should know how to pronounce the damn word it's not eye-taly it's Italy where people speak Italian.

If you are reading this and you tend to say eye-talian food here is your chance to change and not be a ignorant bastard anymore

end rant

Black Sunshine 03-03-2009 08:25 AM

I love this thread.

This one girl I work with constantly pronounces things wrong. One of our clients has the last name 'Royal'. She says it 'Ryal'. Another client's last name is 'Mathewson'. She says 'Matherson'. She also pronounces 'idea' as 'ideal' and 'yellow' as 'yallow'.

This is also the same girl who I overheard telling another coworker that cancer is airborne, and that it can just go away. She said her mother-in-law had pancreatic cancer and that it 'just went away'. Scariest thing is, that this girl is my boss. She routinely brags about how much she knows about the company and likes to make herself sound like she is the smartest person in the room.

I also don't like it when someone is trying to say that they don't care about something and they say "I could care less"...... that fucking means you care some if you don't care then say "I couldn't care less."

Dammit, if you weren't married and I wasn't almost married, I'd marry you! :p

I've always thought that same thing. I always say 'I couldn't care less'. Or I just say 'I don't fucking care'. The last one always does the trick and there's no mistaking it.

Edit: I also hate when people say 'ahhdult' instead of 'uhdult' for 'adult'.

Lazerred6 03-03-2009 08:58 AM

One time I was explaining something to my brother and he said "you know what I could care less" So I tried to explain to him that what that ment was he cared at least some so he should shut the fuck up and stop interupting people

engineman312 03-03-2009 09:16 AM

i hate when someone interupts me when i'm saying something or telling a story, because that tell me that they think what ever i'm saying isn't important.

Can you feel your heart beat in your ears when it happens. I swear I have almost strangled people because of it

my fiance does it to me once in a while, and one time she did it to me in front of a group of friends and then wen she was done telling her anecdote she turned to me and went "ok, u can keep telling ur story now." i almost killed her while i was still temporarily insane. we had a nice long talk about it on the drive home.

Lazerred6 03-03-2009 09:28 AM

My dad does it all the time once I was telling a story and he jumped in with something and I shut him down I was like

"yeah it's cool I wasn't in the middle of say anything just then when you started talking over me go on please continue I really want to know what you have to say"

he has gotten better since then

If my wife said that to me after interupting me I would smile at her and say I hope you are wearing good walking shoes

anyone remember GottiDC?

Switch 03-03-2009 10:35 AM

My girlfriend gets on my nerves so much. She's really nit-picky about my pronunciation.

Here's an example:

I was talking and I said the word huge. When I say huge, I don't pronounce the h. It sounds more like yooj. Now, we went to the dictionary and this is what it says:

[hyooj or, often, yooj]

That means that either one is acceptable. But still, even after I proved to her that you can say it either way every time I say the word huge she's like NOOOO RYAN! ITS HYOOJ! WITH AN H!

And I usually just respond with stfu, we looked it up in the dictionary and it says either way is right so I'm not going to change the way I speak.

LMAO. That just played like a movie scene in my head. :)

First word that comes to my mind when seeing this thread: "Nuclear"

HokieStang00 03-03-2009 11:46 AM

My roommate (Aaron)..his girlfriend always calls him "Airwin" in a 3 year old's voice. She does it on purpose...so it's not really mispronounced. But it still drives me fucking nuts anyways.

That would be like nails on a chalkboard for me.

 A girl I used to work with would always talk like a damn 3 year old. I hated it.

I know a 3 year old that calls me 'Valerlie' and my fiance's nephew used to call me 'Valvie' until he was about 5. Little girls like to call me 'ballerina'. It's cute. But it wouldn't be so cute if an adult was saying it, though. I'd probably give them a look that could kill and make them burst into flames if they said my name like that.

PistonsFan102 03-03-2009 12:41 PM

I really dont' care how people talk in their personal lives, but when you are at work/in public/in a college classroom then I expect you to speak proficiently.

In class today we had a debate between two sides fo the class and this girl kept saying, "ya'll".

And all I thought was, "why did they let idiots into this university?"

jjtgiants 03-03-2009 12:46 PM

How about the word "Washington" A lot of older people for some reason pronounce is "warshington". What the F old timers, it's WASHINGTON.

I do care about how people speak in their personal lives when all they do at work is constantly brag about how smart they are, yet can't pronounce 'yellow' properly.

'Y'all' doesn't bother me at all. It's a southern thing, I guess.

My grandfather is like the total opposite I think thats where I get the peeve from he articulates everything perfectly and studies the derivations of root words in his spare time and corrects people when they get things wrong it can get annoying but it's fun sometimes. He says he does it to keep his mind sharp

An older lady I work with is from Kansas and she says 'warsh' and 'Warshington'. I hate it.

I hate when people say 'wraseling'. I'm like 'what the fuck, it's WRESTLING'!

I dont know if you wrestled, but I did for 7 years, and that was easily one of the most annoying things anyone could say.

"yall" drove me crazy when I first moved down to Texas, I've gotten use to it though now. I still refuse to say it haha
