Mission to Mars

http://www.breitbart.com/article.php...show_article=1

It's crazy to think that people could be walking on mars in our life time

JackThe Ripper 02-26-2009 03:42 PM

ive already been there

it is hot, it is dry, it is dusty, it sucks.

I'd rather colonize the the moon... but that's just me...

Three words... low gravity boobs =D Manswers anyone?

Yes, yes I realize how hard colonization of ANY other celestial body would be but the moon would seem like an awesome test bed for colonizing mars and also seems much more feasable and the possibility of doing it sooner seems more likely.

you would think so, but on mars they would have all the water they need. it really is a better place, it is just so damn far.

Waste of time and money.

Exploring is a waste of time and money? That is a pretty nihilistic statement!

i could hardly see how it could be considered a waste.

Imagine how crappy this world would be if christopher columbus took that same view.

we are getting to the point where we really understand the mortality of our own planet. in the grand scheme of things it would be absolutly insane NOT to do so if we can manage to do it.

right now all our eggs are in the same basket. A good sized asteroid could pretty easily render everyones existance 100% useless and irrelevant. I would feel a lot better having an asteriod wipe out this planet if i knew we had another planet where people would continue.

All we really need to do to make mars livable is to start doing exactly what we do here, pollute the shit out of it which will release tons of carbon into the air, the planet will warm, the water will melt, and mankind will have 2 sustainable planets to live on instead of one. after that, expand out further. carrry on our existance.

True.. But Christopher Columbus wasn't looking for America.. He stumbled upon it by accident. And his true motivation was greed, and his own personal advancement. I agree though.. It's always nice to have a backup plan.

hell he diddnt know it was there, the dumbshit thought he would find india, and he hit america and still thought it was india, hence indians. lol, yeah, it was greed, but if he did not have the determination to explore new routes for his own greed the world would be a very different place. lol.

Badfish 02-27-2009 04:06 PM

christopher columbus didn't do shit. he wasn't even close to being the first one to discover the Americas.

athe vikings were here before that, and before that were the natives.

The vikings setup shop briefly but never really did shit

columbus was the first european to find the place, and it was his discovery of this continent that opened an opportinuty for people to spread out for the purpose of colonizing new lands, rather than the vikings way-stations for thier pillaging and plundering.

it boils down that this place was not being colonized by the vikings, the europeans would not have been here for possibly a couple hundred years later if not for columbus's expedition.

Badfish 02-27-2009 04:33 PM

there are a bunch of theories that columbus was not the first europoean to discover the americas. i think he just took the credit. right place at the right time kind of thing.

our moon may be easier and faster to get to, but the problem is it has no atmosphere at all. You cant let the suns rays touch you or you'll burn up. And you can't let the dark touch you cause you'll freeze solid. No in between the 2 extremes. At least on mars there is an atmosphere albiet a weaker one than on earth, but much more hospitable than the moon. I'm sure they would find a few qualified people who would take on the risk of being a test subject for this mission. And after their simulation, they get paid, and after the actual trip and back they get paid even more.. :t:

audikillsbmw 02-27-2009 10:43 PM

Indeed. Light atmosphere, and it's much farther from the Sun. That way the colonists won't get... :flamed:
