93 Octane Tune

Default 93 Octane Tune

So right now i am running a 91 octane tune, but i really want to run the 93. The problem is i cannot find a place her in New Mexico that sells 93 Octane gas. I have checked alot of stations but i think all we have is 91. So i am calling a few stations to find out but so far no luck. Any ideas, besides to leave freaking New Mexico? In the long run i would love to add a power adder(Nitrous or SC) But i was reading on here and you really need to run 93 Octane for Nitrous.

Is there an octane booster i can use to help or anything like that or should i keep calling and try to find a station with 93?

keep looking, there is only 1 place in town where I can get gas (93 octane)

i don't know why you couldn't run nitrous on 91 octane? I don't know there is much difference between the 91 and 93 tune....timing might be bumped up a little on the 93 tune, but probably not enough to really notice. we don't have 93 octane here in Cali, but there are very few stations that carry VP racing fuel. just my 2 cents

thanks guys. So do you think i could run the 93 tune without the 93 octane?

in the higher states i think yalll dont need high octane. (i guess cuz of the elev or sumthing like that)

here were i live we have 87, 91, 93 and that could be found in every corner store

If you're running nitrous, you're going to want to go back to the 87 octane tune, while still running higher octane gas.

The easiest way to explain it would be that when you're running a tune for 93 octane, what you're doing is your advancing your timing so that the gasoline burns faster. The higher octane gas is required so that the gas still burns evenly and you don't experience detonation.

When you're running nitrous, it accelerates the burn rate, which on an engine with normal timing the 93 octane gas can compensate for. However, when the timing is advanced the 93 octane is already compensating for that and cannot compensate for the nitrous as well. Your engine will then experience detonation.

If you were to run nitrous on a 93 octane tune, you would have to run race fuel.

You run the highest octane available when running nitrous. It's to prevent detonation in the cylinder.

I wouldn't run lower octane then what the car is tuned for.

no, do not run 91 on a 93 tune. it will cause detonation and will ruin your motor. my mom put 87 in my car while i have a 93 tune and just driving around town i could hear it detonating...it was bad...so i ran a quarter tank and then put some octane booster in my car to get 93

here we have 87, 89, 91, 93, 94, 100, 110 (pennsylvania/northern MD)

I heard some major detonation doing the same thing in my car. I filled up with 93 octane and then tuned the car. However, I still had some fuel in the fuel lines and stuff that was 87. I didn't run the car with the 93 in it before tuning it. For the first couple seconds it sounded horrible, but from then on it was ok.

Yeah i just talked to a guy at work about it and he suggested the same thing to run it first and then do the tune.

if ur still on stock tune, then u could run 93 octane thus it will burn slower

if ur tune for 93 octane, and using 93 octane it will burn the same as using 87 octane on a none tune mustang..... which is faster burning

im i right?

No the difference is that with higher octane you can run more timing and that's what makes more power.
