Suggestions for shipping an engine..
 

I've been looking at an engine that is currently located in Washington. Engine comes complete with the original vehicles harness and ECM, as well as all of the accessories and intake setup. However, the seller will not ship it (unless the buyer sets it up.) So I was wondering if you guys have any recommendations for a shipping company. The engine needs to be taken from Washington to Illinois, and the truck needs to be capable of delivering the engine to a residential address. I'm guessing it's going to be at least $400, but it would certainly be nice if it was less. TIA :)

Yeah its not gonna be cheap, since you'll have to get a truck with a liftgate for pick-up and delivery. Hopefully the guy will be nice enough crate it up. I've used Conway, R&L, I think even UPS.. You'll just have to look around and get quotes. They all charge more for residential delivery, like $50 or $75. Do you happen to know any friends with a business address you could use?

Nope. And I don't think I could have it delivered to the dock at work either.

What about a local mustang shop?

I haven't really dealt with any shops around here, since I do most of the work myself. Realistically though, it would be better to have it dropped off at my house. After you figure in the cost of a rental truck to transport it from the shop to my house, I'd probably only save about $20. Plus I'd have to get a few of my buddies to take off of work, since there's no way I could lift a 460 by myself :p. If I could get a residential delivery, then I would first build a rolling platform to hold the engine. That way the pallet could be dropped directly onto it when it arrives, and rolled to wherever I have space in the garage.

If you get it to your house, just get a engine hoist/cherry picker to move it with. You'll still have to get the liftgate to get it off the truck.

dude... road trip. not even trying to be funny. rent a truck, get a friend to drive with u to washington (state? DC?) and enjoy the ride!!!

I know I would still need a liftgate. I think it would be easier though.
And a roadtrip would be nice, but it would probably cost me more that the price to have it shipped, especially when you factor in how much time I would have to take off of work.

Its not bad if you get it sent on a semi and pick it up from the shipping docks. We got a 3.8 split port motor complete motor with shipping and harness and everything for $475 all we had to do was go pick it up.
